The San Diego County Sheriff's Dept. has reported that the suspect wanted in a carjacking case that began in Vista and made a getaway into Fallbrook on Monday morning was arrested last night (Tues., Sept. 2) in Oceanside.

"The suspect was taken into custody last night about 5:15 p.m. in Oceanside," reported Sheriff's gang detective Carlos Canela of the Vista station.

Canela said the Hispanic male suspect, identified as Uriel Ramirez, 22, was taken into custody without incident and was the only individual sought in connection with the crime.

Ramirez, who is being charged with the carjacking, was spotted in Bonsall by a Fallbrook Sheriff's deputy when the alert went out over the radio about the crime. The deputy started pursuing Ramirez, who eventually crashed the vehicle near Interstate 15 and ran into the Lake Rancho Viejo housing development off Dulin Road.

Residents of the area soon saw a very large police presence engaged in the manhunt and the Sheriff's ASTREA helicopter overhead aiding in the search.

Detective Canela said, "The [Lake Rancho Viejo] community was great in providing us with tips; they did a lot to assist us."

Canela said the Fallbrook residents were "good people who came out and talked to us; that helped lead our investigation."

"I was impressed with the community; after we temporarily suspended the search in that community, we got calls with fresh leads about suspicious activity," said Canela. "Unfortunately [Ramirez] had gotten out of the area by that point but we eventually caught up with him before he could do anything else."

Of the manpower involved in this incident, Canela said, "We really wanted to get this guy."

Ramirez has been booked into the Vista Jail; bail not available; and is currently charged with six felony counts, some of which include: carjacking, assault with a firearm on a person, participation in a gang felony, evading police officers with disregard for public safety; and kidnapping.

Sheriff calls off search in Fallbrook for carjacker; agency says "we know who we are looking for"

Debbie Ramsey

After conducting a 3-hour search in Fallbroook today, the Sheriff's Dept. has suspended the operation without having located the suspect. However, authorities with the agency said "We know who we are looking for."

The incident began shortly after 10:30 a.m. today in Vista when a Hispanic male carjacked a Honda vehicle.

When the incident was reported, the Sheriff's Dept. issued an alert and a Fallbrook deputy spotted the suspect and vehicle on State Route 76 in Bonsall.

The Fallbrook deputy began pursuing the suspect and the man ended up crashing the Honda near Interstate 15.

At that time, the suspect ran from the vehicle toward the Rancho Viejo housing development area. The Sheriff's Dept. called in the ASTREA helicopter to begin searching the area and multiple law enforcement officers came to the area in support of the search.

The suspect, who was armed, appears to have been successful in eluding officers, but due to his distinctive appearance, he has been identified.

The Sheriff's Dept. said the suspect has the words "San Marcos" tattooed on his upper lip.

BREAKING NEWS: Sheriff's deputies search for carjacking suspect in Fallbrook

Debbie Ramsey

Managing Editor

Residents of the Lake Rancho Viejo housing development and surrounding areas are hearing broadcasts from the Sheriff's ASTREA helicopter regarding a suspect being sought.

According to Sheriff's Lt. Clayton Lisk, the agency got a call this morning about 10:27 a.m. after a man carjacked a vehicle in Vista. When the alert was dispatched, a Fallbrook deputy spotted the suspect.

"A deputy in Fallbrook spotted the vehicle traveling by Daniel's Market in Bonsall and started a pursuit," said Lisk. "The suspect crashed the vehicle near Interstate 15 and then took off on foot."

Numerous units are in the area searching for the suspect, who Lisk said is armed with a gun.

The suspect is described only as a Hispanic male with a tattoo of "San Marcos" on his upper lip.

Anyone that sees this individual is asked to call 911 immediately.

If you're going to be a criminal, you may have to choose between having cool looking tatts or not having any "identifying marks".....

To comment #2, Name- We were traveling Westbound on Hwy 76, approaching Mission Road and Daniels Market. When this !!>>/xx was driving on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic, he had no care to the safety of others and put my family in danger by barely missing our car. The Sheriff was doing a good job of staying clear of oncoming traffic and still managed to pursue the suspect. So to you #2 Shut up!

Your an idiot they are doing everything they can. The fact that your just saying the usual comment that is made at police just shows how ignorant you are. Do you even live in the community that it's taking place. I do and from what I see and hear they are doing what they can.
P.S learn how to write a sentence. (They need to do it now stop off for donuts) that makes no sense. So please do us a favor think before you write.

I am curious who left a comment about the cops that actually lives in this neighborhood? ? Where I grew up the cops are not your friends and I moved my children here to give them a better opportunity. The cops have done everything to make our neighborhood safe. And have done their very best as well as spent all their resources to make my neighborhood free of this criminal. It is not there lack of energy that caused this, it's the lack of human regard that the person who is being sought after. Thank u to all the sheriff's that patrolled my neighborhood, who did there best and please keep safe while u are doing it.

This guy is just about as smart as the new inmate at Pelican Bay who had "MODESTO" tattooed on his forehead. While being admitted one of the guards said, "So, you're from Modesto, huh?" The new inmate, very surprised, said, "How did you know?" Yeah, I suppose it's not the smartest ones who get caught....

Don't worry, when they catch him Jerry Brown will have him home within a week. Remember - the only solution for prison overcrowding is to release dangerous criminals back into the public, not build more prisons.

Elections have consequences, from someone who remembers when California was the Golden State.

They never found him. From what I heard from my
Neighbors is that his friend picked him up on 395 and he got away.

The solution to overcrowded prisons is capital punishment for those derserving of it....murderers, child molestors, rapists, terrorists, cartel leaders...perhaps some of these criminals need the word recidivist tattooed on their foreheads....we don't need the risk to society or the cost to society to keep tracking down, recapturing and retrying the same criminals over and over again.

I happen to agree with #21 Fed Up... but it will never happen until the Muslims take over USA or ... ISIS said today they could enter here in 20 minutes thru Mexico, and someone else is directing our justice system.

I think it's safe to say that the Gang Bangers will continue to create problems until they are all picked up. If you have neck or head tattoos, then you are a threat to our community.
