The annual Monster Jam and motocross events in San Diego will move to Petco Park from Qualcomm Stadium next year, the organizers announced today.

Field Motor Sports said its track construction crew will pour more than 7,500 tons of dirt into Petco Park to transform the stadium into a specialized venue for its monster truck shows and motorcycle races, and work with groundskeepers to restore the field to baseball playing condition before opening day.

"We are excited to move our iconic stadium-based motor sports events to Petco Park and the historic downtown San Diego area," said Ken Hudgens, chief operating officer of Feld Motor Sports. "Working with the Advertisement

team at Petco Park, we are eager to develop new relationships in the San Diego community, including a variety of promotional opportunities working with the San Diego Padres."

The Monster Jam will be held Jan. 17 and Jan. 31. The Monster Energy Supercross is scheduled for Feb. 7. Tickets are set to go on sale in July.

City officials and the Padres have said they want to add more off-season events at the ballpark in order to enhance revenue and maintain activity in the neighborhood -- though not necessarily at the expense of other venues in the city, like Qualcomm Stadium.

I get a kick out of the last sentence, because the close to $800,000 in revenue from these events being held at the Q (for Parking, Food & Beverage and rental) and going into the City's general, will NOW go to Padres, as I believe City's cut for these types of events at Petco during off-season will only be 30% of revenue generated. Hmmmmm!

I hope that environmentalists protest these events one day very, very soon! These events do nothing but harm our environment.

Disgusting.

Only ignorant fools attend these kind of events.
