CAMP PENDLETON - The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) today (Jan. 20) investigated the weekend stabbing of a female Marine at Camp Pendleton.

The stabbing occurred Saturday morning, Jan. 18, at the North County base during an altercation between the victim and a fellow Marine, according to U.S. Marine Corps officials.

The victim was stabbed multiple times and flown to Scripps Mercy Hospital, Marine Corps Public Information Officer Lt. Savannah Moyer told reporters. She was identified as Lance Corporal Emily Hammonds of Virginia Beach. Her condition was not immediately reported.

This is sad, she may know who it was. (if she tells on him,she may not.)

I understand he attempted to murder her because he had raped her. They know who it was and he's already in custody for it. It was a higher rank taking advantage of his status over her. Absolutely disgusting.

A Marine maims another human being.

Shocker.

For a change I agree with Lee - it is shocking to me that a Marine attacked another Marine - we (once one always one) need to protect and watch for each other.

I think GRUNT doesn't understand what sarcasm is. I agree with Lee.

When we train our youngsters to murder other people as a vocation...and that is what the marines do, then it should come as no surprise when things like this happen.

I'm pretty sure that Grunt understands sarcasm and I'm also pretty sure he was aware of what Lee was saying, which, as usual, is something totally ridiculous. I'm curious though DLW: How do you explain all the atrocities committed by people who have NEVER been in the military?

How do you explain Toys for Tots if Marines are such dastardly killers? Eh???

DLW- again, you can not - well you do, but should not equate what we the military do to protect you (killing) from what others do illegally, murder. What you and Lee and others need to remember is that words have meaning - to use them falsely reduces the impact when you really need that word. Look at "racist" for example - so over used, Carla for one uses "racist" to mean anyone that disagrees with her. I think you need to rethink "train our youngsters to murder". if you hate the government fine, if you hate the military as an organization, fine, but do you really believe that the men and women, your neighbots kids, are trained to murder?

How do you explain the fact that hitler loved little children and dogs if he was such a dastardly killer.

To DLW Comment 7: The U.S. does not train our military to murder other people. The are prepared and trained defend their country, their liberties, their homes, their families, which they volunteer to do feeling it is their duty, even to the loss of their blood. They have my admiration and respect.

You're right, I really should have used the word "kill" not "murder" so please don't read too much into my previous comment. I also shouldn't have referenced anyone else or implied what there views were. For these things I apologize. I come from a very long line of Texans who have proudly served going all the way back to the civil war. My own father died in Korea and my brother was wounded in Vietnam. Right now I have a grandson in the service and I constantly pray he's not sent overseas.

So I'm certainly not saying that our youngsters in uniform are all a bunch of mentally deranged mass killers. I'm not saying that we do not need a military. What I am trying to get at is that violence is part of the job. Like a policeman who has to deal with violence day in and day out I think that a person can not help but be negatively affected by it and in many cases absorb a lot of it. I've certainly witnessed this with members of my own family.

The Marine Corps (Army, Navy, Air Force, etc) does not teach violence, it teaches you how to respond to violence. We obviously do need a military, if we didn't have one we would be taken over by a country who does have a military before we could blink twice. I'm glad DLW rethought his previous statement, and he is correct that the police as well as the military are trained to "kill" IF need be. I assume that Lee believes we don't need a police force either. Atrocities are committed every day by people who have never been in either the military or the police force, blaming the military for everything is something Lee tends to do on a regular basis, and that is why most people, with the possible exception of DLW, never pay any attention to him.

@13. We can parse words all day long but it really is a difference without a distinction to an innocent Afghani family that has just been blown up by a US bomb.

US out of Afghanistan, NOW! Free Chelsea Manning!!

Have you ever been in the military Carla? Know anyone who has? Are they violent? My husband, brother and son in law have been members of the Army, Air Force and Marine corps respectively. They never did harm to another human being unless they were fired upon. They have all become wonderful husbands and fathers. They were all taught to defend themselves and to protect and defend their country, they, and brave men and women like them, have stood on that wall so that someone like you can spew all the hatred you want under the guise of freedom of speech, which they are sworn to protect.

I would like to see us get out of Afghanistan as well. Talk to your president, he is the one keeping our troops there to be maimed and killed by land mines, car bombs, and "innocent Afghani citizens" wired with explosives. Instead of listening to liberal professors who don't have the guts to do anything but deliver hate speech to easily led undergraduates, you might try actually talking to military personnel. They are not the enemy. Most of them are young persons, just like you, hoping to get an education through the GI Bill. They are our neighbors, our friends, our future. Just as you are.

If our boys were ever to enlist we'd disown them so fast their heads would spin. No pride in being professional murderers and that is what the military does. Too bad some people will back away from their truthful statements because we live in a military infested town.

@ Pink. I know several people from high school who have enlisted one of whom I consider to be a good friend. I have repeatedly counseled him that if he is ever to be deployed that he should refuse, for his own safety as well as to avoid the possibility of taking innocent life. So please, spare me your vapid, condescending lectures. People make these decisions of their own volition as to whether to go to Afghanistan or not. They were not conscripted or forced to participate by threat. I'm tired of trying to intellectually or morally justify it any longer. I can't. I won't! This country and its troops have no business being in Afghanistan as we had no business being in Iraq before it. I am not proud of my President and I am not proud of my country for our involvement. In truth I am deeply ashamed.

As to what I've done to effect change? I have repeatedly emailed the President and my congressional representatives, signed countless petitions and attended numerous protests. I've been deeply involved in the electoral process as well volunteering for various candidates and registering new voters. Unfortunately at the ballot box my only practical choices to influence progressive change in US foreign policy is between awful (Democrats) and much, much worse (Republicans). So Pink, other than hide behind your flag, mouth knee jerk jingoism and vote for creeps like Romney and McCain, what have YOU done?

Oh and just so we're clear about this, I owe no debt of gratitude whatsoever to your husband, brother, son in law specifically or any other member of the US military for my freedom of speech. The US war machine has done NOTHING to protect me or anyone else in this country. In fact its continuing existence denies US citizens access to education, housing and nutrition due to its continuing drain on our national resources. Its very existence, ever ready at the disposal of American and international capitalism, and its unfettered use promotes the justifiable enmity and unending hatred of 100's millions of people around the globe. The neocolonialist policies that you support ensure that a target continues to be securely fastened onto the back of every man, woman and child in this country. I won't shut up!

@Carla: Well written, lots of big words. I went to college too. Speaking of knee jerk jingosim, I think perhaps you need to put down your text book and look in the mirror.

My husband, brother and son in law require no thank you, they are grown men, they joined the service of their own free will and did the job they were trained to do. I am proud of them and proud of their service. I frankly don't care whether you are proud of your country or not. I'm not particularly proud of some of the things we have done either. I voted for McCain when he ran against Bush for the Republican nomination. I voted for him again when he ran against Obama. I was not however, a supporter of Mr. Romney. I hide behind no flag, I am an American. I have the right to freedom of speech, as do you, the difference is I know what it means and why we still have it. You, on the other hand, take it for granted.

Just a word of advice. You might want to ease up a little bit on the temper tantrums. People tend to tune out someone who rants about things they haven't experienced, and know nothing about. I have done quite a bit in my lifetime to assure that others receive the same rights that I am guaranteed. I have been kicked off a bus in the south for standing up for the civil rights of those who were told to stay in the back. I have marched for equal rights and equality. I have written letters and made speeches. I have visited the poor and the sick. I have taken food and clothing to those less fortunate. I have prayed and worked for a better world. I have not been idle. Think before you judge me young lady. I won't shut up either.

@Comment #20: I forgot to add that I totally agree with my handsome husband (comment #22) what kind of parent would disown their child for making a life decision? Our son grew up to be an extremely confident and vocal liberal. We raised him to have a mind of his own. We do not always agree with him, and we have had some interesting debates, but we love him and are proud of him. We would never disown him.

Thank you comment #25, I am certainly old enough to be Carla's mother, probably grandmother!! (-: However much we disagree I believe that we have a mutual respect for each others view points. I certainly hope so.

BTW Carla and Fallbrook Mom, you do know that having Lee agree with you on something makes your position look less than good don't you?

Carla you realize that when you counseled your friend to not deploy( after as you pointed out he volunteered), you are encouraging him to renege on his commitment. This means that NO ONE SHOULD EVER TRUST HIM OR YOU, as you feel statements and actions have NO MEANING to you
As to the military doing nothing to protect anyone; please tell me what country you think provides more/better rights. Try your wild unfounded rants in Cuba, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, People’s Republic of Korea, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Nicaragua, etc.
Then tell me how the US military has hindered anyone’s access to education, housing or nutrition. Once you are out of high school, you will notice that the world sends their students here for college – not the other way. As Pink suggests, get you nose out of a book and live – really look at the world and you will see that our “poor” are better off than many of the world’s middle class.
And, innocent people being killed – lets us remember that before US intervention in Afghan, young innocent women were killed because they were raped. Sunni in Iraq kill more innocent Shi’a than all coalition forces. Of course we know that in your mind innocent is anyone other than an American.
Grow up, pay your own way instead of dad paying your bills and then we can talk reasonably. There are liberals here that make sense since they actually have experienced adulthood.

@20 - how sad, you would disown your child. What would be YOUR reaction is I were to say if my child was homosexual I would disown him? (I would not). I would always support my children - love, being a father means that.

Of course as a liberal ONLY your point of view is considered by you. Excuse me -- i must throw up from just thinking how horrible it would be to have you as my mother or father - or I guess it would be spream donor and egg donor as there does not seem to be any "mother" or "father" in you attitude.,
