A motorhome parked behind a local restaurant in downtown Fallbrook went up in flames today, causing the brakes to release on the vehicle, and roll into two nearby vehicles.

The incident, which happened around 2 p.m. (Fri., Jan. 17), took place near the corner of South Main Ave. and West Aviation Road, behind Trupiano's Italian Bistro restaurant, at 945 So. Main Ave.

"Everyone heard an explosion and then the motorhome was on fire," a bystander said. Fortunately, the owners of the motorhome got out of the vehicle safely.

As a result of the explosion/fire, the brakes on the motorhome released, which caused it to roll and collide into two unoccupied vehicles parked on the property - an Advertisement

The fire sent plumes of black smoke into the air, causing immediate concern in the downtown area.

First responders quickly closed Main Ave. and Aviation Rd. to allow sufficient room for North County Fire to get the blaze under control.

The blaze burned parts of a wooden fence and scorched a small portion of the northwest corner of the restaurant's roof. The motorhome was a complete loss; damage to the sedan was moderate to major; and minimal damage (if any) was done to the Bronco.

North County Fire, the San Diego County Sheriff's Dept., and the California Highway Patrol worked together to handle the incident.

Glad no one was hurt...................

As the former owner of a motorhome, there are only 2 good days when you own one, the day you buy one and the day you get rid of it.

I do not know if this is true, but I was told that the RV owners are an elderly couple who have been living in the RV, moving from parking lot to parking lot. If this is the case, they are now homeless, and I'm guessing they have no insurance. I sincerely hope that the churches in town, and there are many, including my own, St. Peters, who will come forward to help these unfortunate people who are down on their luck.

Just to clarify--- the motorhome was owned by an older couple - from Downey, CA - who had come to Fallbrook on a business matter. And they are insured. I spoke with them personally at the scene. Fortunately they were not hurt.

Thank you Debbie. Rumors always abound in Fallbrook after incidents like this. I'm sorry for whomever was involved, but glad to hear that no one is homeless as a result.

These people are friends of mine. They are a very up standing couple who took outstanding care of their motor home. It was an older coach, but immaculate. It was truly an accidental fire.
