FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Varsity Rugby team fought a long hard battle on Jan. 11 against the St. John Bosco team of Bellflower, Calif. The Warriors worked hard all week preparing for their meet up with the physically larger team. Each and every point earned was fought hard for by each side. In the end, the Warriors fell short by 2 points, losing 31 – 29.

The team’s coach, Mike Majewski, had this to say about the game and his boys, "It was a tough loss to swallow versus a team full of football players that were California State champs and ranked #1 in the nation. Our rugby skills were much better and will continue to improve. The boys now know what it takes to overcome a bigger team. I am very proud of their effort and am glad to have been a part of that match."

Parents in the stands agreed. It was an exciting game to watch and the Warriors' skills were very evident. Many people were overheard walking Advertisement

away from the stands saying, "That game was amazing."

That same weekend, the Fallbrook U8, U10, and U12 Braves rugby teams played against the San Diego Aztec Warriors at Dusty Rhodes Park. The U8 and U10 teams dominated their opponents, both winning their games by a large margin.

These teams are full of spunk and showed great sportsmanship on and off the field. The U12 team showed great progress this weekend but were unable to put any points on the board. They played hard and with great heart against a more technical team and should be proud.

The U14 team had their opening game at Dusty Rhodes. They played a hard game against a physically larger team. The boys played well and looked great on the field, making up in skill for what they lacked in size but walked away with a loss.

The next Youth Rugby matches are Saturday, Jan. 18 at Potter Jr. High where all teams will play the Temecula Lions.
