Commander Reginald Sutherland Fogg (USN, Ret.) born on May 13, 1917 to William Fogg of Estes Park, Colo. and Gisela Ritter, an Austrian immigrant, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on December 11, 2013.

Commander Fogg was born in Pasadena, Calif. After the untimely death of his mother, Reg and his father moved to Estes Park, Colo. to live with his grandmother, where he spent much of his formative years becoming close friends with the Schwilke family.

Reg graduated as Valedictorian at Estes Park High School, attended college for a time; however, due to the cost of college, decided to enlist in the U.S. Navy in 1936 as a Seaman.

While on leave, Reg reacquainted with Mary Schwilke, and they were married on July 15, 1944.

Reg’s naval service consisted of time in both the enlisted and officer ranks, achieving the rank of Commander. He served on ships, such as the USS Chittenden County, the USS Floyd B. Parks and the USS Yorktown. Commander Fogg received the Purple Heart for injuries he sustained upon the USS Chester during WWII.

Reg and Mary made their home in Fallbrook in the mid-1960s, where he was the Officer in Charge of the Naval Weapon Station.

Reg was an active member in the Fallbrook Rotary Club, having served in various capacities. He was very proud of the award he received for 47 years of perfect attendance.

Reg was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary.

Reg is survived by Ruth and James Shaner of Lakewood, Colo.; Christine Gibbs of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Diane and Robert Bassett of Denver, Colo; James and Barbara Shaner of Mancos, Colo.; various great nieces and nephews, as well as many close friends who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of Reg’s life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Son Rise Christian Fellowship (formerly Fallbrook Presbyterian Church) where Reg served as an elder and co-leader of Grief Share.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Reg’s memory to the Fallbrook Rotary Club or Fallbrook Hospice.

Reg Fogg was a class act in every aspect. He was a long-time family friend who will be missed dearly. It's too bad there are not more people like Reg in this world.

My mom knew him when he was young, gave him dancing lessons at the USO. They remained friends until her death. We as a family socialized with him and his wife from time to time. What a nice man. I enjoyed his stories. Condolences to his family. They don't make em like him any longer
