Wind advisory in effect until Sunday

URGENT WEATHER MESSAGE FROM NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA

Periods of strong and gusty west to southwest winds in the mountains and on desert slopes tonight through Sunday morning.

A couple low pressure troughs moving near Southern California will bring strong and gusty west to southwesterly winds in the mountains and deserts. The first trough will create gusty westerly winds in the mountains. Desert slopes and favored adjacent desert areas tonight through Friday. The winds will then diminish temporarily Friday night into early Saturday morning. Winds will strengthen again later Saturday morning into early Sunday morning as a second disturbance moves through the Great Basin.

- Wind advisory remains in effect from 10 p.m. this evening to 7 am Sunday.

MPH; Gusting to 45 MPH. Local Gusts of 55-60 MPH are possible through favored mountain passes, canyons, and ridge-tops.

- Locations - Mountain ridge-tops, desert mountain slopes and portions of the adjacent desert areas.

- Timing - Strong winds tonight (Thursday) through Friday. A temporary decrease Friday night followed by another increase in winds Saturday into early Sunday morning.

- Visibility - Blowing dust and sand reducing visibility to one mile or less at times in the deserts.

- Impacts - Winds will make driving difficult especially for motorists with high profile vehicles. WATCH FOR BROKEN TREE LIMBS.

- Outlook - Winds will diminish Sunday morning.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions

- A wind advisory for the mountains and deserts means that winds of 35 MPH or gusts of 45-50 MPH are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. USE EXTRA CAUTION.
