Richard L. Goodlake, a 32-year resident of Fallbrook, was appointed to the Fallbrook Union High School District (FUHSD) Board of Trustees at a special meeting held Nov. 4. Goodlake replaces trustee Cliff Sumrall who resigned, citing a move out of the school district.

"I’m really excited about this," said Goodlake. "I work with kids a lot and it will be my honor to support them even more." Goodlake was selected for the position from a pool of four candidates. All attended the meeting and participated in interviews.

Goodlake’s background includes being a 20-year veteran of Hughes Aircraft Co. and a retired Lt. Col. in the Marine Corps. He holds a bachelor of arts degree, a master of science degree in administration, and a masters of business administration degree.

"He brings extensive leadership, managerial, technical and business acumen to the board, as well as over eight years of experience working with students at Fallbrook High School, and other high schools throughout San Diego County," said FUHSD superintendent Dale Mitchell, Advertisement

Ed.D. "As the Rotary Club of Fallbrook coordinator for the Interact Club at Fallbrook High School, Goodlake works with students on a weekly basis stressing community service in Fallbrook, and oversees at least one international project yearly."

Goodlake said he is excited to bring his experience to the board.

"I have a lot of vision into the curriculum that the kids need in the 21st Century," he said. "I think I can give the board a lot of insight into a lot of different areas, which you acquire over a lifetime."

He has held many leadership positions, including serving as first vice president of the Diocesan Council of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego (2011) and as alternate deputy to the 2012 General Convention of the National Episcopal Church.

At this point in time, Goodlake said he feels serving the school district is an important priority.

"It’s a matter of giving back to the community," he said.

Goodlake will serve until the November 2014 election.

That's a good person !! Great background...Marine officer...businessman...active In church...and when he has earned a relaxed, plentiful retirement...still cares enough to work for and with the citizens and school age kids-of Fallbrook.

Thank you Marine!

Fabulous choice. Mr. Goodlake has done quite a bit for the youth of the community, I believe he will be an outstanding board member.

Just as long as he checks his "christianity " at the front door I'm fine. I'm uninterested in his "religion". But the moment he start using the school to push his "christianity" then we'll have a problem.

He does not push his religion on anyone. He is an honest man who has been deeply involved in his community including his church, but it is not the thing he does. Please attend a board meeting or listen to it online - you will find that religion does not come into play in any of the board member's decisions.

I see nothing wrong with comment #4. I have no idea why anyone would object to it. It sounds like @concerned mom is the one with the real problem.

As apparent, grandparent and educator I heartily compliment the choice of Mr. Goodlake to the board. His broad experience over a lifetime and his ability to combine that experience with the relevant issues in education today make him a strong support not only for the young people of the district but for the well-being of the system. This community should be thanking Mr. Goodlake for his service.
