CAMP PENDLETON - Camp Pendleton units will be conducting Mine Clearing Line Charge exercises in the Whiskey impact area from 6 a.m. to midnight, Monday, July 29, through Wednesday, July 31.

Mine Clearing Line Charges are 1,750 pounds of linked C-4 (Composition C) explosives used to create a breach in minefields under combat conditions.

Camp Pendleton units will also be conducting live-fire artillery training in the Whiskey and Zulu impact areas from 6 a.m. to midnight, Wednesday, July 31, through Friday, Aug. 2.

Depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of the explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away.

"Where on Camp Pendleton are Whiskey and Zulu impact areas?"

Directly adjacent to the pending grass fires.

Decommission this and the vast majority of our military bases around the country and every single one of them located abroad. Turn all decommissioned bases into parks or other activities more befitting a civilized society.

Great idea Carla, and in two weeks after that happens we will be invaded by North Korea. Great plan. Speak Korean do you?

Whiskey and zulu are mid-base, east of Basilone road, west of the hospital. if you are familiar with the base, Robal Road is basically the boundary. Nice firebreaks between the impact areas and habitable terrain.

So exactly how would this massive North Korea invasion force arrive on our shores? By platoons of synchronized swimmers or magic teleportation device?

Build schools, not bombs!

Carla...If it weren't for greatest military bases in the world here in the USA...There wouldn't be any parks or schools to play or study in......There are people who want us all dead...that's never going to go away.......Clinton cut our military in the 90's and you see what has happened after that.......Enjoy your Freedom today while you run your mouth, shop, play in the park, and complain about how horrible it is here in Fallbrook.........because an ultimate sacrifice was paid for that Freedom today.......

@Carla: They (North Korea, Iran, pick some country) would just come on over, be it in ships, airplanes, or both. Who would be there to stop them? A park ranger? A bunch of kids playing Frisbee? You?

This discussion/debate /whatever you call it is getting old. The same posters saying the same thing week in and week out.
People just need to come to grips with the idea people all have different ideas regarding the noise, the USMC and the military in general.
Are they all correct....no, but they are opinion and, believe it or not, people are allowed to have them.
As for me, the noise is fine, the Marines and all others serving in the military are doing a job, so I don't have to do it.

Actually, they would probably just send over NBC equipped drones that they reverse engineered and manufactured from the multiple units we have crashed and lost to them over the duration.

Bitter pill to swallow Huh?

@10. There is a big difference between people "who want us all dead" and governments that have the military capacity to launch an invasion of this country. Having a standing military force of 1.5 million does nothing to guarantee my freedom. It is a massive waste of resources, both financial and human.

@11. None of the countries that you cited have the logistical capacity to move troops or materiel to the shores of this country to pose any sort of credible threat. And as large as the North Korean standing army is, it simply lacks the transport needed to launch an invasion against US territory. In fact, North Korea lacks the ability to move troops from its own east coast to its west coast (and vise versa) in any great numbers using either its air or naval forces under ideal peacetime conditions. The only way North Korea could deliver troops to our shores would be to buy seats on JAL Airlines. Despite China's large population and economy, even it's incapable of projecting power around the globe sufficient to invade us.

Carla appears to be extremely book smart, but I'm wondering if she could actually find her way from the library to the ladies room. Book knowledge is a great thing but one also needs to learn practical application. Perhaps, left to their own devices, North Korea and Iran (for example) may not have the tactical capability to reach our shores, but have you ever heard of countries like China or Russia? Just who do you think is backing these tin pot dictators?

I don't believe that this would be a good time to further weaken our military and close much needed bases like Camp Pendleton. They are our first line of defense. As far as parks go, they usually end up being places where gangs gather to distribute and sell drugs. Given my druthers, I'd druther have a Marine base next door.

Good give them some hard work for once. Now maybe my marine neighbors will quit getting drunk and being loud outside in the front at 3am on a Wednesday morning keeping everyone else around them up. I know after a long day at work that I'm too tired to party on the front lawn with a case of beer until 4am. I Wish they would get that tired too. Would be nice to get a full nights sleep for once.

@Comment #19: Pardon me for making an obvious suggestion, but why don't you call the sheriff's department and make a complaint? I believe we have an ordinance about loud music after midnight; on a weeknight I think it is 11 pm. There is also a law about being drunk in public. It would only take a visit or two from the deputies to give these jerks the idea that they need to tone it down. Most of these young men (and women) have been to Afghanistan, they are home safe and want to let off a little steam, but they need to grow some manners. Most Marines make good neighbors. Mine are fabulous, polite and friendly. Hard workers and good family men.

"North Korea and Iran (for example) may not have the tactical capability to reach our shores, but have you ever heard of countries like China or Russia?

Let me repeat once again, despite China's large population and economy it's incapable of projecting military power around the globe sufficient to invade us. Ditto for Russia. The only possible advantage that Russia might arguably have would be one of geographic proximity to Alaska offering it a potential staging ground. Despite this adjacency, moving troops and supplies across the Bering Straits, even if frozen solid, would be a daunting task indeed given the size and composition of today's Russian military. Long story short, Russia like China poses no credible threat to the territorial integrity of the United States.

So is there anyone else you can think of with territorial designs on the United States and the capacity to carry them out? Botswana? Liechtenstein perhaps?

Carla has finally lost it... You don't think China and Russia have the military power to invade us?? She has been brain washed completely. It would be to your great benefit to visit Camp P. and visit with the Marines. If you really knew all that is hid from the American people as to not cause mass hysteria...

There is a sitting duck called San Onofre... pop... we're gone.

Oh my, thankfully not all of our youth think like her, but learn beyond the box. PS: China, Russia and Iran all have more money than the US...they have been amp-ing up while the US does $$ billions and billions $$ bailouts. Yes, we were a great nation but never in it's history has it ever been in so much financial trouble...ever...and continues to fall within.

China investors has been buying up our property right and left - banks don't care... they need the money....soon the world will not be governed by the dollar.. hope you are ready for that.

Carla, the reason those countries cannot project power is the United States Navy, without them what would stop the XXX country from boarding what ever ships they wanted and coming on over? You do know, do you not, that PRC has practically taking over the Panama canal? Venezuela, fairly close, is allied with Al Quada, Cuba and PRK have begun arms shipments back and forth -ease to get troops there, then 90 miles away.

Oh my, oh my, oh my. How I wish that when Lee says "no comment" he actually meant it. Do I gather, from the comment that you did make Lee, that you believe that Marines aren't capable of being hard workers and good family men? Not one of them? Ever? Oh yeah, no prejudice there. Oh wait, you are prejudice aren't you? I'm guessing that "no comment" is your new catch phrase, hopefully replacing, "do the people get to vote on that, and if not, why not".

@ # 23-28

Enlightened participants and surely past National Spelling Bee participants, IF what you say is true, then has the thought as to WHY all these nations are rampin' up their military occurred to you? Has it? WHY do you think that all these other nations are rampin' up their military? Why? Simply . . . 'cuz they hate us and what we stand for? Really? Is THAT the brainwashin' you speak of?

Immoral behavior breeds immoral behavior.

Am I the only one who thinks that all the comments Lee makes, make absolutely no sense?

The countries that you speak of Lee, have ALWAYS made war, have ALWAYS tortured and murdered their own people. Women have NO rights in much of the Middle East, they use their children as shields. Human rights are non existent there as well as North Korea. North Korea came into power just after WWII, a time when "we" literally saved the world. I'm willing to bet that if you, and perhaps even Carla, had been alive back in the 30s and 40s you would have been "Isolationists". They didn't want us to get involved in the war in Europe. It wasn't our business according to them. After all, Hitler was only murdering Jews, and Poles, oh and some other people, but hey, not our business.

It is amazing how you love to speak of all the countries that "hate" us Lee, but they certainly don't turn down our money, now do they? I also find it interesting how you always put down the Marines Lee. It seems to me that you protest too much. I believe, as I'm sure do many others, that it is because you can't measure up. Do I want to see our troops come home? You bet I do. I want them home and out of harms way. Those countries will never have democracy, they don't understand it and they don't want it. The people in those countries who do want to have freedom come here, one way or another, many of them are able to make it.

We need a strong military for a defense, bring them home and build up our borders. As far as "immoral" behavior goes, I think Lee's behavior is the most immoral of all. Carla is young, I don't agree with much that she has to say, but at least she is fairly intelligent. Lee is just a wannabe "tag along".

They are 'ramping' up their military for only one reason, control. NOT because they hate us, but to take control of us.

You are saying you are who you are because of your parents....and any of your kin that were in the military are lazy and bad parents. That explains it.

I guess Freedom sounding like guns and bombs does add a new dimension.

Kinda' like Tchaikovsky's 1812.

This is crazy. There are far less people in 29 palms. There seems to be alot of people out there who feel super patriotic for putting up with this noise. Their rants on how unpatriotic everyone else is makes them feel special and like a tough die hard person that will defend the military to the very end. For some of these people, sadly....thats all they have....how really great and patriotic they are. I and others are patriotic as well...but we dont feel a need to put others down. As well, why doesnt the military make any sense and do bombing in a more isolated area? There is like a half million people that live around the bombings probably more! You see, the powers that be have decided they DONT what to live in the cruddy desert and prefer the cool ocean breeze...so they said "We dont care about all those people that have to live around us and not get any sleep and hear bombs from 7 till 11 at night....ALL DAY LONG!...we prefer not to live in the desert and thats that!" Might makes Right! sooo suck it up all you americans, cause WE DONT CARE!

Is it too much to ask for a more precise noise advisory schedule so we can plan ahead? I read the CP website but it is an 18 hour range and never correct. Can the training be consistent every time? Could it be a certain week of the month? Do they just plan by the minute?
