FALLBROOK – The San Diego County Firefighters Pipes and Drums will be in Fallbrook to lead the opening ceremony of the upcoming ‘Salute to Firefighters,’ the special program being presented by the Fallbrook Historical Society in partnership with North County Fire Protection District on Saturday, July 20. The event will be held at the Historical Society museum grounds, 1730 Hill Street, (Rocky Crest Road and Hill Street) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Festivities will include an impressive collection of antique fire trucks including Fallbrook’s own ‘Alfie’ and a unique 1902 American Steam Fire Engine. A host of fire personnel, both active and retired, will be on hand and fire information displays and materials will be set up around the event grounds.

The opening ceremony, scheduled for noon, begins with the entrance of the San Diego County Firefighters Pipes and Drums and the Camp Pendleton Fire Department Advertisement

The program includes a brief slide presentation entitled "The History of Firefighting in Fallbrook" and remarks from North County Fire Protection District Fire Chief William Metcalf. The program will end with a ‘Salute to Firefighters’ – the community’s expression of gratitude to local firefighters – past and present – for their service and commitment to residents’ safety and well-being, and the singing of "God Bless America."

Refreshments will be served at the end of the program.

All of the historical society’s buildings – the Pittenger House, the Museum, the Ford Room, the Rock and Mineral Room, and the Barn – will be open for visitors and docents will be on hand to inform and assist before and after the formal program.

The event is open to the general public and free of charge.
