Plane crashes on takeoff at Fallbrook Airpark; one injured

FALLBROOK - One man was injured in the crash of a small airplane on takeoff today, Sun., June 30, authorities said.

It happened about 2 p.m. at Fallbrook Airpark in the 2150 block of South Mission Road, according to North County Fire Protection Advertisement

District.

The injured man, who was not identified, was treated at the scene and released, district officials said. Another passenger in the plane was not injured.

The aircraft -- which received minor damage -- was identified by North County Fire as a Cessna 170.

From the picture it doesn't look too bad. I bet the injury was a head hitting the dash. It was a little gusty yesterday, and the temps wouldn't help with lift at all. But hey, any landing you can walk away from is a good one.

Judging by the "attitude" of the plane and the skid mark it looks like a ground loop. Glad everyone's not seriously injured.

I used to fly in the eary 1940's and know what it's like to crash a plane. my Mitsubishi 47 A6M2 had a bad landing gear and it caused me problems in Hawaii.
