Chas Mudie personally was disappointed with his first season as Fallbrook High School’s head boys lacrosse coach, but the Warriors ended their season in the CIF Division II playoffs.

"We didn’t have a great season, but we were given a second chance," Mudie said.

Including the 6-2 playoff loss May 15 at Maranatha Christian, Fallbrook had a record of 6-15 for Mudie’s first season. The Warriors were the only team among the four Avocado League schools not ranked in the county’s top 10 and lost all six league matches.

In addition to playing first-ranked Torrey Pines, third-ranked La Costa Canyon, and eighth-ranked Carlsbad twice apiece, Fallbrook also lost a non-league match to fourth-ranked Westview and lost three other matches to teams with winning season records. Fallbrook had one victory against a team with a winning season record; Valley Center’s 14-7 mark includes a 6-5 loss to the Warriors on the Jaguars’ home field.

"We only had three seniors. The team was basically a sophomore team. They’re still young," Mudie said.

Senior Night was May 9. The Warriors had a 6-3 lead over La Jolla Country Day, but with five seconds left the Torres scored the winning goal in the 10-9 game. "That was a heartbreaker," Mudie said.

The playoff appearance was the first ever for Fallbrook. "We really had an opportunity to do it," Mudie said.
