Proof of excellence is apparent when a private school starts receiving second generation students. Such is the case with Zion Lutheran School in Fallbrook which will celebrate its 30th year in 2014.

"Educating the children of previous students is the best recommendation there is," said principal Donna Woods. "We fully recognize that our children are our future and we want to provide an excellent educational experience for them."

Fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the national Lutheran Schools Association, Zion Lutheran School serves children in preschool through eighth grade and is a fully interactive Christian school and church experience, where community involvement is encouraged.

"We always look at what we can do for the community; not what it can do for us," said Woods. "We earnestly desire to become more involved in Fallbrook, to create partnerships and relationships and especially to teach our students how to share the love of God by serving those around us."

Nurturing a student to be well-rounded is part of Zionís comprehensive plan ‚Äď and that means attention to academic performance, faith, physical education (even preschool level), music enrichment, art, after school sports (football, volleyball, golf, basketball and soccer), community service, and family support. A selection of interesting trips, including a mission experience to China, is offered at various grade levels.

"We have high academic standards and are updating our curriculum again for the 2013-2014 school year; we are becoming more assessment-driven and more focused on each individual studentís particular needs," said Woods. "We will also be phasing more technology into the classrooms with iPads."

Two international students (seventh and eighth grade) from China will attend Zion this school year to experience American culture.

Zion is pleased to announce that through strategic, long-term planning methods, it has been able to reduce its tuition for the new school year, making the value even higher given its small class sizes and high student test scores.

"We have made it even more affordable for our Fallbrook community; itís important for us to take a fresh look every year and think of ways we can improve," said Woods.

The Christian faith is taught in weekly workshops and daily religion classes by both the teachers and Pastor Mark Demel, who also leads the confirmation preparation classes for grades five through eight.

Youth ministry activities, now under the direction of Meghann Abeyta, range from fun and educational outings to various community service projects appropriate by age group.

Zion offers before and after school care as well as a hot lunch program.

We made the choice to put both our children in Zion from preschool until they graduated from 8th grade. Best decision we ever made. Wonderful school, with warm caring teachers.
