Club members work diligently to produce 48th annual Fallbrook Vintage Car Show

FALLBROOK – This year, members of the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club will produce their 48th annual vintage car show. To most of those attending the show on May 26, the event is all about enjoying a Sunday outing, viewing vintage vehicles, eating their favorite foods, checking out the swap meet booths, perusing automobile memorabilia and just plain "having fun." However, to car club members, the production of a show like this takes a tremendous effort by an organized and dedicated group of volunteers with planning starting as far back as early September of the previous year.

Bob Newkirk and Tom Conley, co-chairmen of the 2013 car show, began last fall to recruit the required core committee members necessary for the event. The show is a true production, with many facets involved in addition to the actual display of vintage vehicles on "show day."

Committee member assignments range from those appointed to develop the show’s website, featured car selection, creation of car show poster, classification of entry vehicles and judging procedures, down to the all-important show field layout and public parking arrangements. Other committee members are appointed to handle the car show program, interact with swap meet vendors, memorabilia-merchandise sales, food vendors, audio/visual technicians, signage, flyers, raffle and special display booths, as well as publicity.

For the 2013 show, the core committee members are Roy Moosa, club president; Bob Newkirk and Tom Conley, co-chairmen; Don McCormick, Arnold Cohen, and Wayne Warner, featured car; Bill Muno, website design; Mike Johnson and Norm Hoskins, poster design; Lloyd Voorhees, vehicle registration; Mike McGuire, field parking layout; Whit Whittinghill, car show program; Lee Johnson, merchandise sales; Tom Long, judging; Doug Allen, swap meet; Ron Mintle, signage; Monty Voigt and Mike Simpson, audio; Leo Romero, raffle; Wayne King, public parking; Joe Cusimano, volunteer support; Fred Ragland, logistics; and Chuck Tillotson, publicity.

Once the core committee was assembled, one of the first orders of business was to begin designing the car show’s website. Simultaneously, research started for selection of the featured car (this year celebrating the 50 to 60’s Lincolns).

an artist was commissioned to commence design of the annual car club’s show poster which over the years has become a sought-after collectible piece. Renowned artist Jim Krogle was selected again this year to create the poster which memorializes "Grandma’s House" a restaurant that once operated in the historic Elder House located at the corner of Main Ave. and Elder St. The poster also illustrates Krogle’s renderings of three vintage cars; a 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II, a 1959 Ford Galaxie 500 Skyliner, and a 1964 Corvette Stingray.

After these selections were made, the website and poster design commenced in earnest. Then action goals were developed for each committee member and as the months passed, decisions were made and approved by the committee that allowed sufficient time to complete each assignment. Depending upon their assignment, many of the committee members brought on additional support personnel to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities.

Presently the car show committee is in "full press" mode working diligently to make this show a true extravaganza. The club anticipates over 300 vehicle entries, continuing the club’s tradition of the longest continuous running vintage car show on the West Coast.

On May 25/26 (car show weekend), car club members along with over 100 volunteers from local youth groups and community organizations will descend on Potter Jr. High School’s athletic field to help set up booths, offload merchandise, receive food and utility vendors, set up for registration of entry vehicles, and field layout in order to prepare for this spectacular event.

The 2013 Fallbrook Vintage Car Show will be held Sunday, May 26. Gates will be open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Both spectator entry and parking are free to the public. For additional information, and/or to enter a vehicle in the show, visit

The Fallbrook Vintage Car Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving back to the local community. Proceeds obtained from various events, including the car show, are donated to local, needy groups and organizations throughout the year.

This will be my family's first time attending the vintage car show. Are these posters available for sale at the event? Are there other items for sale, such as diecast models of cool classics or stickers etc?

Yes, the commemorative posters will be on sale at the event. There are a wide variety of little cars and all kinds of other things for sale in the booths at the event as well.

I know it will be a great show at Potter but I keep wondering why the show isn't held on Main Street in town...........It would be a boom to the merchants and the community as a whole like the Temecula Rod Run. Could someone from the club respond?
