The annual fundraising golf tournament for Fallbrook High School’s field hockey team, including its off-season Guac Girls squad, will take place April 20 at the Fallbrook Golf Club.

The golf tournament will be the tenth annual such fundraiser for the field hockey program. Proceeds from the golf tournament, including the dinner and the raffle and live auction, will help cover the expenses of the Fallbrook High School varsity and junior field hockey teams during the CIF season and will also fund the Guac Girls expenses for the National Field Hockey Festival, the winter North County Indoor League, the Cal Cup, the spring Play for Pink and Play for Mila tournaments, and 7-on-7 tournaments. The team cannot officially represent Fallbrook High School outside of the CIF field hockey season, and without the ability to call themselves the Warriors the team has adopted the name Guac Girls for tournaments and other play.

"Support is greatly appreciated, especially since we’re going to Florida again for the (National Field Hockey) Festival," said tournament organizer Kathy Waite.

The tournament will have a best ball scramble format with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. Check-in will begin at noon, and a putting contest prior to the shotgun start will begin at 1:00 p.m. The dinner, which will include the raffle and auction, will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The $95 entry fee for the tournament includes 18 holes of golf, a cart rental, range balls, and dinner. Those who are interested in attending the dinner but not participating in the golf tournament can do so for $25.

In addition to the putting contest and the prize for the foursome with the lowest score, there will also be contests for closest to the pin, longest drive, and longest drive with a field hockey stick.

"All the sticks are the same size, so it makes it fun," Waite said of the contest to hit a golf ball with a field hockey stick. "Makes it a little more challenging."

Fallbrook High School’s baseball booster club initiated an annual golf tournament in 2000. Pete Bardeen, whose son played baseball for Fallbrook and whose daughter played field hockey for the Warriors, spearheaded the initial field hockey golf tournament in 2004. The field hockey golf tournament has yet to reach the capacity of 144 golfers, so registration the day of the event will almost certainly be possible. "We will have credit card available, which we haven’t had before, so that will be helpful for day of," Waite said.

Registration for the golf tournament and for dinner can also be conducted in advance. Interested potential participants or sponsors can contact Waite on her cell phone at (949) 285-7409 or by email at
