Fallbrook International Film Festival April 5 through 11; 65 films, 3 workshops, gala awards, concert and more

The Fallbrook International Film Festival (FIFF), which takes place Friday, April 5 through Thursday, April 11, features a dazzling lineup of 65 films, many of which include well-respected actors, directors, and producers in the industry. Three interesting workshops are offered as well. The crowning glory will take place at the festival’s gala awards ceremony Sunday evening at Pala Casino, when several honors will be presented, including one for career achievement to well-known actor David Hasselhoff.

The film "Shuffle," directed by Kurt Kuenne will receive the festival’s top film honor, the Frank Capra Award. Festival founder Ronald Shattuck described the film as being "brilliantly written and directed.w" Starring T.J. Thyne, who is best known for his role as entomologist Dr. Jack Hodgins on the popular television series "Bones," the film "tells the tale of a man who begins experiencing his life out of order; every day he wakes up at a different age, on a different day of his life, never knowing where or when he’s going to be once he falls asleep."

A screening of "Shuffle" will take place Friday, April 5 as a part of a group of screenings beginning at 6:30 p.m. All screenings take place at the Digiplex Cinemas in Bonsall’s River Village. David Hasselhoff is scheduled to appear in person to accept the FIFF’s Career Achievement Award at the April 7 gala at Pala Casino Spa & Resort and sing two songs to the audience.

Labeled the "Most Watched TV Star in the World," according to the Guinness Book of World Records, Hasselhoff earned international notoriety for his roles in the television shows Baywatch and Knight Rider.

Terry Leonard will receive the FIFF’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the gala. Leonard, a legendary stunt coordinator, has a career spanning 125 iconic films that include Apocalypse Now, Romancing The Advertisement

Stone, Die Hard III, as well as The Fast and the Furious.

Fallbrook’s own Jerri Patchett, highly regarded for her devoted efforts to numerous, worthy community projects, will be honored by festival organizers with their Patron of the Arts Award.

"Fallbrook owes so much to Jerri," they said.

The festival will also feature three dynamic behind-the-scenes workshops on Saturday, April 6, taught by top industry specialists.

The first workshop, "Shooting Action," will be presented by Corey Eubanks from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Eubanks, a stunt coordinator and second unit director has an impressive background working with some of the industry’s top directors including Ron Howard, Tim Burton, and more. His stunt titles include "Far And Away," "Mission Impossible III," "Vanilla Sky," and many more.

"Production Design" will be discussed in the noon to 1:30 p.m. workshop by Hollywood designer Mayne Berke, an art director with expertise in production design. Berke has done the production design for 17 titles and served as art director for nine. His most recognized work includes "The Princess Diaries," "SWAT," and many others.

"Red Carpet Makeup & Hair", from 2 to 3:30 p.m., featuring local models, will be presented by Cindy Miguens and John and Suzanne Chadwick. Miguens, whose makeup work includes "Pretty Little Liars," "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," and "West Wing," in addition to others, will share the secrets of how to look like movie stars. Fallbrook’s own award-winning stylists, the Chadwicks will teach make-over techniques so individuals can "make every night the most special of their life."

This year’s event includes seven days of screenings (65 films) and several special events including parties, and a Concert in River Village Plaza, due to the festival’s significant growth.
