FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Historical Society continues to expand the many activities included in its ‘Salute to Firefighters’ set for Saturday, July 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the historical society museum grounds, 1730 Hill Street (Rocky Crest Road and Hill Street).

The event will include a spectacular collection of antique fire trucks and at least one modern truck so that spectators will get an up-close look at the latest fire-fighting technology. A host of fire personnel, both active and retired, will be on hand, as well as Smokey Bear and Pluggie. Fire information displays will be available around the grounds, set against an awe-inspiring panorama of American flags.

The opening ceremony, scheduled for noon, will be sure to dazzle visitors. Beginning with an entrance from the San Diego County Firefighters Pipes and Drums and the Camp Pendleton Fire Department Honor Guard, the program will open with a flag salute led by a very special firefighter and the singing of the National Anthem by Christa Noetzel.

The program will then proceed with a brief slide presentation entitled "The History of Firefighting in Fallbrook" along with remarks from current North County Fire Protection District Fire Chief William Metcalf.

The program will end with a ‘Salute to Firefighters’ – the community’s expression of gratitude to local firefighters – past and present – for their service and commitment to the safety and well-being of Fallbrook residents.

All of the Historical Society’s buildings will be open for visitors and docents will be on hand to guide visitors and answer questions, both before and after the formal program.

The event is open to the general public and free of charge.
