PALA - The California Highway Patrol re-opened State Route 76 east of Interstate 15 shortly after 3:30 p.m. today, after it had been closed for over 13 hours following an incident in which a vehicle hit a telephone phone causing it to fall into the roadway. Delayed response from phone company AT&T appears to have elongated the process of getting the road re-opened.

UPDATE: SR76 will remain closed leading into Pala until at least 3:30 p.m. due to downed telephone lines after accident

PALA - The California Highway Patrol has indicated that the delay in getting State Route 76 re-opened following a vehicle accident this morning has been due to delayed response by AT&T repair crews.

Updates have shown that AT&T was notified about 2 a.m. of the situation and due to access problems to their equipment yard, were not dispatched from Escondido until 11:30 a.m.

At 12:48 p.m. today, AT&T told the CHP that the work would take another two to three hours.

Was curious about the lack of "screaming motorcycles" passing our home here on Sunday morn. Too bad it took an accident and pole down to create such a peaceful morning. First time I've had positive thoughts about AT&T, thanks for the slow response.
