Fallbrook alum receives Bronze Star

FORT LEWIS, WA. – Army Staff Sergeant Shawn Adkins, 42, was issued the Bronze Star medal on Feb. 11 for his outstanding work as a liaison with the Afghan Army and police partners during Operation Enduring Freedom while stationed in the Northern Sha Walikot District and Mya Neshin District, Kandahar Province.

Adkins, a 1989 graduate of Ivy High School in Fallbrook, has served in the Army for 13 years.

After receiving the Bronze Star, Adkins said, "It felt good to be appreciated for a lot of hard work."

Currently stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash., Adkins is a platoon sergeant. He lives in nearby Dupont, Wash., with his wife, Patricia. The couple has six children, ranging in age from 6 months to 15 years.

Adkins is the son of Dave and Kerry Soto of Fallbrook.
