Literacy event have been announced. The poetry writing contest is offered to Fallbrook Union Elementary School District (FUESD) students in grades three, four, and five. The essay writing contest is offered to FUESD students in grades six, seven, and eight. The winners of this year’s contests are:
Poetry Grade 3: Naiya Kunik, Fallbrook Street Elementary School Grade 4: Chase Petersen, William H. Frazier Elementary School Grade 5: Madelyn S. Peterson, Mikhail Beath, Live Oak Elementary School
Essay Grade 6: Hayden Hurt, La Paloma Elementary School (Hayden described her great-grandmother’s experiences marching alongside Dr. King during the Civil Rights movement). Grade 7: Michael Womack, Potter Jr. High School (Michael connected the leadership qualities of Cesar Chavez to those of his karate instructor, Master Dan Paulson, thanking Advertisement Grade 8: Sarah Verschoor, Potter Jr. High School (Sarah’s essay "The Power of Two American Heroes," brings to light the fact that heroes "lead and inspire others, make a difference in the world, and help those in need," reminding us that we can honor the legacy of these important leaders by demonstrating these qualities in our own lives and community every day.) All original student artwork, including those entries that did not place, will be displayed at Fallbrook Library. Fallbrook A Leer will be held on Saturday, March 23 on the Maie Ellis Educational Center campus from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Families need to register to attend through their child’s school.
