Two award-winning short films can be seen free on March 10 at Fallbrook LibraryThursday, March 7th, 2013 Issue 10, Volume 17.
The first short drama film, "Heal," written and directed by Pakistani filmmaker Mian Adnan Ahmad and produced by Marcus Metsala of Chapman University was the winner of the 2011 Frank Capra Award. "Heal" (24 minutes) is the story a young boy named Azeem who discovers he has an extraordinary gift. Living in a region devastated by war, his village can only provide the bare minimum setup for school when suddenly its lone teacher is hit hard by the conflict. Azeem, who has deep feelings for his teacher and his classmates, finds himself faced with an ultimate decision. The second film, "The Desperate" is a powerful drama short written and directed by Iranian-Jewish filmmaker Ben-Hur Sepehr. The film (33 minutes) has received many awards and was an Academy Award consideration in 2010. Based on a true story, it is about an imprisoned, eminent Jewish doctor who, on the eve of his scheduled execution in a concentration camp during World War II, is conscripted at gunpoint to perform emergency surgery on the son of a fearsome Nazi general. Both producer Marcus Metsala and writer/director Ben-Hur Sepehr will be present for a question and answer session at the screenings. "These are two films you won’t soon forget," said Ronald Shattuck, co-director of the Fallbrook International Film Festival. The film screenings are free and will take place in the library’s large community room. Caution: film subject matters are suitable for mature audiences only. 0 comments Be the first to share your opinion on this article! |
