CAMP PENDLETON - Camp Pendleton units will be conducting mine clearing line charge exercises from 6 a.m. to midnight today, Friday, March 1.

Mine Clearing Line Charges are 1,750 pounds of linked C-4 (Composition C) explosives used to create a breach in minefields under combat conditions.

Depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of the explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away.

For future inquiries regarding increased noise levels, please refer to the weekly noise advisories posted on the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Web site at http://www.pendleton.marines.mil/About/BaseInformation/NoiseAdvisory.aspx.

Love these sounds. I live within a couple miles of the Pendleton border and have not had camp Pendleton noise ever keep me up in 28 years. So all you complainers just keep complaining, because nobody is buying it or feeling sorry for you.

"Nobody is feeling sorry for you?"

What's it like being so self-centered and egotistical that you feel you have the right to speak for EVERYBODY?

Well, I for one, don't feel one bit sorry for the complainers. Camp Pendleton was here long before most of us and an awful lot of good men and women have gone through there on their way to combat on foreign shores, WWII until present, some never to return. The Marines are willing to stand on that wall. I am willing to endure a little bit of noise. The price of freedom or the sound of freedom, take your choice.

They need to chill and cut back like the rest of us. Can't afford to train military to police the world anymore. Haven't been affording it for a very, long time.

In reponse to comment no.7, shall I assume you arent old enough to apprciate the sacrafices made by Marines and all military and even civilians during WWII? I bet you havent given it a first thought, much less a second. Do yourself a favor, drop whatever interests you these days and immerse yourself into history as if you were living it now. Try putting yourself in that time, in those conditions. Try to imagine what life would be like to have to fight for your very being, for your very survival. Everyone back in those days had serious sacrafices that had to be made to support the war effort. It wasnt good, easy, or fun. It was hard as hell. So before you dismiss as blah, blah, blah, stop and reflect on what had to be done in the past so you have such a good life today. And very good it is, compared to back then. You have no idea.

Are you referring to the "terrorists" they are trying to get by setting up the TSA? In all the YEARS we have had the TSA, NOT A SINGLE TERRORIST found. What a waste.

You are right. With all the drunk drivers and homicidal maniacs coming off the base lately.....a little noise is the least of our problems.

Geez Mom of Lots, isn't that the point of the TSA? To discourage terrorists from getting on planes!! Appears to be working doesn't it. Don't worry though, there are still terrorists in our country, just waiting. Interesting that you seem to find terrorists funny. Think about all the lives lost and families torn apart on 911. Hopefully you and your precious family won't ever encounter any.

To Really?....do some research on our founding fathers and what they thought about standing armies, fighting "enemies" in foriegn lands, mand tyranny here on our own turf.

I share my computer with my husband, and as someone who has defended his country I don't blame him for his reaction to Mom of Lots in Post #13, her comment was beyond silly, although, as a woman, I think his comment was a bit sexist and I told him so. Believe me, MOM, my husband has probably done far more research in this area than you have. He is not only a retired military officer, but a historian as well. Our troops follow orders. They put their lives on the line so that you can say anything that comes to your mind, no matter how ridiculous. Tyranny? You don't know what tyranny is. Keep up thinking like you do and you will find out. How many of your children are female? Its a good thing you don't live in a third world country!

Pink, unfortunately, what we are doing to these other countries is tyrannical and we continue to lose our freedoms daily here, one at a time. What we are doing and have done to so many innocents in other countries is wrong. And I am totally fine with your husband and his comment Pink. I understand where both of you are coming from as I come from a very conservative, Republican upbringing, educated and all. I started changing my views once Ron Paul came to the forefront. He opened my eyes.

My understanding is that the military industrial complex controls the majority of our economy nd our commerce. Us American taxpayers are in servitude. We ran away from a dictator in 1776, only to become under the same servitude. How do you feel about billions of our tax dollars being sent to foriegn aid over seas? And the fact that we are $16 + Trillion in debt. You can blame the current Administration if ou are on the right, or you could blame the previous Administration if you're on the left, or you could blame both if you are a Libertarian. But if you are a rational, free thinkning person, it seems the only conclusion is that it's not working and a drastic change to our policies is needed to get us back on the road to freedom and off of the road to serfdom. The fact tht we are engaged politically. Militarily, and economically in so many different regions of the world is keeping us this road to collapse. I think we could have an international global economy that would benefit everyone involved if we kept our sovereignty and protected our own national interests without trying to control that of other nations. Anytime you are a part of an organization, you tend to take on the beliefs and the interests of that organization and sometimes it is very hard to think outside the proverbial box and have an objective view about what is going on.

TO PINK:

1. Camp Pendleton was seized from the O'Neil family by the Roosevelt administration and purchased for $120k in 1940.
2. Most of the world's beaches are rocky and the use of the hovercraft that is at Pendleton for assault is laughable.
3. 29 Palms has thousands of acres for this type of training without affecting populus areas (including flying helicopters after 10:00 PM).

@Comment #19: $120K was actually considered a lot of money in 1940. That being said, the government has been able to seize an awful lot of private land for their own use (Eminent Domain) it is a law that I'm not fond of, but a law nevertheless. I am not defending our foreign policy Mom of Lots, I am defending our men and women in uniform. Under orders they go places and do things that I am too big a coward to do. They stand on that wall defending our liberties and our freedoms, and many of them die in that effort. You disrespect them by calling them tyrants. Most of the countries that we have sent our troops into are already in the hands of tyrants, so your statement makes no sense. Should we be in some of these countries? I don't think so. We need to defend our own homeland though, and to say to our military "oh chill out and kick back" shows a total lack of understanding for how perilous our times are right now. We need to be ever vigilant on the home front. Ron Paul is nothing but a politician and way too off the wall for me. I can see through most of his propaganda but others eat it up like chocolate. An international global economy? Good grief!! Both the politicians and the love of money have ruined this country. We have lost our moral compass.

Enlisted personnel follow orders from superior officers who in turn follow orders from their superior, who has been given direct orders by the president of the united States. Who, mom og lots, is the tyrant here? I personally believe that it is way past time to bring our troops home. We were attacked on 911 by terrorists who were taking their orders from caves in Afghanistan and, at that time, the Afghanistan gov't was behind the terrorists, we went in initially to overthrow that government, and stayed to protect the new regime, in the process, and after many failed tried, we finally got bin Laden. Now it is time to let them stand on their own, too many of our men and women have died many in vain. Those third world countries have never known anything but tyranny. Women aren't even second class citizens they are third class or worst, coming in somewhere after their husbands dog. There will be a new dictator in no time once we pull out. It is a way of life for most of those people. Life means nothing to them. So, by all means, drink the kool aid that Ron Paul pours, this is America, you are free to believe what you will and I am free to support our troops and say thank you, welcome home. Job well done. By the way, I am a Republican, I did not vote for President Obama, but, by no means, do I believe that he is a tyrant, if you understood what a tyrant really is, you wouldn't either.

@fallbrook local - The LCAT (Hovercraft) is laughable? Really, Please explain your expertise in this - are you an expert or even vaguely familar with amph. assualt? I would like to know what you base this statement on, since the USMC and Navy feel that this vehicle gives the MC over-the-horizon ability to hit most of the beaches in the world.

It is time we starting spending our money where it will benefit us the most, and blasting the blazes out of Pendleton is not it.
It is time we stop sending our young men and women to other countries to die and start fighting terrorism intelligently.
The methods we have been using have not been successful and it is only a matter of time before we will be at war, right here at home. If you can't see that, its like everything else that is going on today -- Apathy has taken over the minds and spirit of the American People and instead of managing our government we go along with the same old game plan and we are loosing in the 4th quarter.
We do not even enforce our own National Laws, and when a Country does not do that, it is doomed.
