Fallbrook Library to host contemporary art show

Thursday, February 28th, 2013
Issue 09, Volume 17.

FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Library will host an exceptional art show, "Michael Maas and Friends, A Contemporary Art Exhibit" from March 7 to April 23. This show focuses on large abstract paintings produced by Maas, and work by other artists that illustrate modern trends in the art world, such as paintings derived from Japanese anime and pictures of people produced with a sense of irony and humor. One intention of Maas, who organized this exhibit, is to appeal to a younger audience. Art in this contemporary style is rarely shown locally and the exhibit provides an unusual opportunity to see what is going on in art these days

Much of the art in this exhibit comes from the personal collection of Maas and his wife Carmen. Carmen is a medical doctor with training in art history from St. Andrews University in Scotland. She has chosen the art in their collection Advertisement

and is personally acquainted with many of the artists. Michael and Carmen have been Fallbrook residents for the past eight years. Michael has studios in Fallbrook and in Los Angeles. His work has appeared in many well-regarded shows in major cities and his art hangs in collections in Australia, Canada, England, France, Mexico and Saudi Arabia.

Some of the many artists whose works will appear in the show include Mel Aroche, San Salvador, El Salvador; Katinka Clementsmith, Temecula; Extremo The Clown, Portland, Ore.; Lindy Ivey, San Diego; Irv Simpson, Oceanside and Graeme Wilcox, Glasgow, Scotland.

An opening reception hosted by the Friends of the Fallbrook Library will be held on March 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the community room of the library. Musician Dave Blackburn will perform. Refreshments will be served and admission is free. Contact the library at (760) 731-4650 for additional information.
