The Fallbrook Tennis Club has been a part an integral part of the community for many years. Dorothy Roth has been the owner since 1983, and it originated about eight years prior to that. The 10-court facility (six are lighted) is utilized by players of all levels and leagues throughout the year.

Roth explained that the club prides itself on helping the community.

The Fallbrook High School boys and girls varsity teams both have their home matches on the courts. The boys varsity team plays in the spring, and the girls varsity in the fall.

Roth said, "David Ramirez, one of our pros at the Fallbrook Tennis Club, coaches the girls varsity team. Several of these girls have received full-ride scholarships to top universities."

Through the years, Fallbrook Tennis Club has had many outstanding players in the Fallbrook Open, which is a benefit for the Boys & Girls Clubs of North County. One of them, Michael Chang, won the 1986 Open, then got a wildcard to the US Open and the next year won the French Open. Roth said, "If you want to go anywhere in tennis, you must start at the Fallbrook Tennis Club!"

The next event at the club will be the Fallbrook Open Tennis Tournament, held the first two weekends in June. Many local businesses sponsor this tournament.

"I provide my time and the courts, and we have volunteers who help run the tournament," explained Roth. Plaques are given to all levels of players, and the Open Tournament players receive prize money. All proceeds are donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of North County. The public is always welcome to come watch the upcoming stars of tomorrow.

The Fallbrook Tennis Club hosts three USTA-sanctioned junior tournaments during the year – in January, July and September. The players range in age from 8 to 18. In the past, not only have players from Southern California competed, but some have traveled in from out of state and even Australia.

Roth said leagues structured for men, women, and mixed play throughout the year at Fallbrook Tennis Club.

"Having leagues from different areas in the county come and play, introduces some friendly competition," said Roth.

There is full-line pro shop at the Fallbrook Tennis Club, which is open to the public. It offers racket stringing, rackets, gear, shoes and accessories, as well as a substantial array of apparel.

Two tennis pros are available for private and group lessons, and a drop-in work out is held for all levels on Thursday mornings.

The facility also has seating available for viewing, as well as a lawn area that can be used to host private events and parties.

The Fallbrook Tennis Club is open every day, and is located at 2141 S. Mission Road, Fallbrook, next to the airpark. For more information, visit www.fallbrooktennisclub.com or call (760) 728-1100.

Can't tell you how many times as a parent I have wondered why there is not snack bar...Plenty of parents I know who wait while their kids have lessons would LOVE to sit and enjoy an iced tea or coffee under an umbrella table while the kids practice!
