Bob was a legend in motorcycles and motorcycle racing, and best known for founding Team Hansen, a leading force in motorcycle racing in the 60s and 70s. He was also a senior executive at Honda and Kawasaki during that period. He was inducted into the American Motorcycle Association’s Hall of Fame in 1999. Bob was a bomber pilot in WWII, and retired from the Air Force Reserve as a lieutenant colonel in 1979. He is survived by his loving daughters, Kathy Dunkerley, and Roberta Hansen. He has four grandchildren: Lindsey Freehill, Laura and Jonathan Dunkerley and Jeffrey Hansen, and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held Monday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. in the chapel at the Berry-Bell and Hall Mortuary in Fallbrook, Calif. It has been suggested that donations be given to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame, 13515 Yarmouth Drive, Pickerington, OH 43147, which aims to preserve the heritage of motorcycling. 5 comments
Kathy & Roberta, Sorry for your loss. Bob was a great friend & mentor. Anita & I visited Tuner in 2011. We had a nice visit & took several pictures.

For it was you who changed MR.HONDA'S MIND about KING OF M/C CONCEPT! You & Soichiro were at lunch conversing about the future doings,and when he mentioned that HONDA MOTORS was to build the KING OF MOTORCYCLES,then you shot back that it cannot be a twin or triple powerplant to be the KING! MR.HONDA then asked why he should not go this direction in m/c design. Bob shot back that with 18 world GP championship trophies captured,then it had to be a INLINE FOUR CYLINDER MACHINE! Incredibily SOICHIRO SAN HONDA responded back to bob that HONDA had much experience building 4 cyl racers! BOB RESPONDED-EXACTLY!!!! That was the moment that truely changed the M/C world FOUR-EVER more! T-U BOB HANSEN/T-U SOICHIRO HONDA!!!! 69/70 HONDA CB-750 K0 SANDCAST 4 POT WONDER MACHINE 4-EVER MORE!!!! |
