Translate this page Animal sanctuary is the new organizer for Paws in the ParkThursday, February 14th, 2013 Issue 07, Volume 17.
The Paws in the Park Dog Fair was the idea of Ruth Redmann, former member of the board of directors of the Foundation for Senior Care. The inaugural Paws in the Park took place in April 2006. The event was dedicated to Redmann at the second annual event in April 2007; Redmann passed away in April 2008. After last year’s dog show, the foundation’s board of directors felt that the confusion over the foundation as organizers of the Paws in the Park event was not instrumental in helping to promote its mission to serve Advertisement As a result, the idea of partnering Paws in the Park with the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary (FAS) seemed like the perfect fit and eventually, Dotty Metcalf, executive director at the foundation, approached FAS board of directors about the idea. They were excited and agreed to become the new event organizers. The foundation is working closely with the sanctuary’s Paws in the Park committee members to ensure a seamless transition for this year’s event. The sanctuary is seeking sponsors, vendors and participants for this year’s Paws in the Park. For more information, contact Connie Buehman at buehmanc@yahoo.com or call her at Ocean Waves Salon, (760) 451-9992, Tuesday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; evenings, she can be reached at (760) 728-6294. 5 comments
It would be nice if the event returned to it's original format. It used to be very friendly with plenty of time to meet and visit people and their dogs. The last few times (we skipped last year) it was so structured and the loudspeakers were constantly blaring, that there was no time or space to enjoy the vendors and the participants, two and four-legged. Just one mutt's mom's opinion. WAY TOO LOUD..sorry for shouting :)
Please try us again this year and give the event another chance. We at FAS promise to make it an enjoyable and rewarding experience for both doggies and people!!
It's great to hear The Animal Sanctuary will be sponsoring Paws in the Park. Hopefully, they will set up an animal adoption center, and find good homes for the pets (ie: cats) that have the shelter bursting at the seams. My only concern is that the more publicity the Sanctuary gets, the more people will come and "dump" unwanted cats at the shelter. It's sad when the sign goes up stating they are too full to take adoptions. Hopefully, the publicity gained from sponsoring this event will do a lot to help the shelter grow in it's mission to save unwanted animals.
Thank you so much Comment#3. It is so true, for every cat we adopt out, 3 more come in. People need to learn to spay and neuter their pets. There is also the Spay and Neuter Coalition in San Diego who catches strays, have them spayed and neutered and then returns them to their habitat. We probably won't be able to bring cats to Paws in the Park because it is strictly a "doggie" event and the cats would be terrified, however we will have plenty of brochures to hand out for those interested in adopting. Every animal that comes in to us has to be checked by a Vet, and this can turn out be very expensive. Every dollar we take in goes to care and feeding.
I cant wait to go this year, its going to be Fun, and Taking Picture of what I love, The animals and The Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary! |
