OPEN FORUM: What did you think about President Obama's State of the Union Address?
Wednesday, February 13th, 2013
Issue 07, Volume 17.
FALLBROOK - Village News Inc., publisher of the Fallbrook/Bonsall Village News, the Temecula Valley News, and Anza Valley Outlook invites readers to share their opinion of U.S. President Barack Obama's State of the Union Address delivered Tuesday evening, February 12, 2013.
Media with liberal slant has reported:
*Obama understands the economy is still struggling and compared to his demeanor on Inauguration Day, indicated he is willing to "reach out" to the Republican Party.
*The President feels it is time to "close out the politics of austerity," that "we can't cut our way to prosperity."
*Of the ideas he presented, Obama said nothing he was proposing "should increase the U.S. deficit by a single dime," saying the U.S. needs a "smarter" government that sets priorities and invests in growth.
*Obama's use of executive authority to address certain issues more aggressively could be a turning point in dealing with a potentially existential problem.
Media with conservative slant has reported:
*Obama promotes a "balanced approach" to deficit reduction but doesn't provide specifics about budget cuts he will support. He wants more tax revenues and more government spending on his priorities.
*When the President made certain proposals - high-quality preschool for every child, tax credits for businesses to hire/invest, Advertisement
[ Metalography ] more scientific research and development, shifting vehicles away from gas, and infrastructure investments (road improvements) – he did not reveal their projected cost or how they would be paid for.
*Obama's presentation was repetitive to prior ones - with his ideas going "nowhere" in divided Washington.
*The President said he would utilize his executive power to push his agenda if Congress doesn't support it – saying "If they won't, I will."
The Tea Party weighs in:
Republican Senator Rand Paul gave the Tea Party's rebuttal to President Obama's State of the Union address, which included these talking points:
*Obama exudes 'woe is me" over the $1.2 trillion sequester he endorsed and signed into law. Corporate taxes need to be cut in half; federal spending needs to be slashed by trillions.
* Leaders from each party need to cut spending and be willing to take on their "protected" special interests.
*Cuts can be made in both domestic programs and military spending – these areas are not immune to waste and fraud.
*Obama thinks the U.S. can keep borrowing $50,000 per second and keep squeezing more money out of people who are working. The President believes in more government, more taxes, and more debt.
What do you think?

Lies and Marxist propaganda, all rolled up in what sounded more like a campaign speech than a state of the union address. Anything that ever comes from his mouth is an absolute LIE. If you ever wondered what lies sounds like, just wait for Obamas mouth to open. They are textbook perfect. What I want to know is, how and why do so many people believe anything he says? Are they just that thick?
Comment #3 | Wednesday, Feb 13, 2013 at 12:23 pm
BTW, the only reaching out he does to the Republican Party is to either slap them in the face or stab them in thier backs. Then he flies around and runs his mouth on how obstructive and unwilling the republicans are to work with him. Never mind the senate (controlled by Marxist Democrats) have yet to even produce a budget since he took office.
Comment #4 | Wednesday, Feb 13, 2013 at 1:32 pm
He talks a lot of nothing.
Comment #5 | Wednesday, Feb 13, 2013 at 1:42 pm
All the Obama supports were claiming that he did such a good job during the last four years that he deserved another four. Now he sounds like he is admitting that maybe things haven't been working out so good and maybe he just wasn't spending enough. What is the truth? How are things compared to four years ago?
Unemployment........... up 3%
Gas prices................. up 92%
Federal debt.............. up 55%
Debt per person.... Up $17,000
Food stamp recipients. up 46%
Americans in poverty... up 23%
Misery Index.............. up 22%
All the sources for these figures are listed at........
I truly believe that he will just keep on spending, creating a worthless dollar and chipping away at our constitutional rights and freedoms, just waiting for massive rioting to break out so he can implement his real plans for America.

The POTUS is confused with the way the world ought to be and as it is, a common problem with super liberals. If everyone worked as hard as they could, and only took as little as they needed....(communism's cry) it what the POTUS is saying, increase spending so those that do not work can have a good life, increase taxes so those with an outstanding life can have (only) a good life. Increase minimum wage to $9-$10 an hour, the fast food restaurants will not decrease employees or raise rates, no they get along with less money. If just everyone had $10 an hour it would be fair.
He is killing the country, destroying jobs - if I have to pay unskilled labor $10 an hour what must I pay my highly skilled labor? I will cut the jobs for the unskilled, do it myself.
Comment #7 | Wednesday, Feb 13, 2013 at 2:12 pm
Obama is either delusional or the most uniformed President there ever was.
He is a puppet, with the strings being pulled by the banking Globalist Elite who created the Federal Reserve which is not fedral at all.Their intent is to run up as much debt as they can before they collapse the fiat currency. They will then endebt each and every American citizen to it and enslave us.Then they will create a new currency and start the ponzi scheme all over again.
Educate yourself and WAKE UP! Go to infowars.com. The Globalist are enslaving us in debt. Freedom and liberty is almost impossible to regain once it has been lost. There are those that think communism might be great to try.Mao tried it in China and killed 72 million, USSR tried it and killed 62 million, Germany tried it and killed 21 million Japan tried it and killed 6 million, Cambodia tried it and killed 2 million. Our rights are being taken away one by one, you can now be labeled a terrorist and they can search you or your home without probable cause. They can now detain you indefinitely without charge and without probable cause. Obama signed the NDAA but said he'd never use it, yeah right, unless he wants to. Top military brass have been asked if they would fire on American citizens if given the order, those that won't are retired out of the service. It's deeper than Obama, deeper than WallStreet and deeper than Congress, but we can change it, if we act soon.

I believe President Obama has the country on the correct path. I shudder to think where we would be now had McCain and Palin won in 2008 - a country of have and have nots with no respect from other countries...and would most likely be involved in more wars than we are now (of which the POTUS has been extracting us). Of course, the Republicans have no problem with that as they care not for anyone but themselves. The Republican party has become filled with greed and intolerance. The future of this country lies with what are currently "minorities" that will soon become the "majority". The Republicans - and everyone who has thus-far posted here - had better wake up and smell the melting pot coffee.

I forgot to mention that I am a caucasian female in my 50s, a college graduate, and am employed as a mid-level professional. I do not expect (nor have ever taken) government assistance of any kind, but I am glad to know that it is there for those who need it...or if I may need it in the future. And I am happy knowing some of my taxes go to help support folks who need the assistance. I would rather live in a country surrounded by people who are more "equalized" than in a country with a "caste" system. If I wanted that, I would move to India. Maybe some of the folks posting here should consider that move.

Ah... Fallbrook, Land of the Bigots. As I read the comments here I am reminded of how many good people just have bad information and thus become full of hate and nonsense.
For those spouting "Marxism!!" I suggest you head to the library and read up on Marxism and realize how truly far off that comment is. Christianity is far closer... if there were any "real" Christians and not those wingnuts who have just gotten through Leviticus, the world would be a much nicer place.
Those who think the "world is coming to an end and it's all Obama's fault!" Seriously, where were you during the Cuban Missile Crisis? The riots in the streets in the 60's and 70's? Not to mention Bush, Cheney and Rove and the wars of the last decade that killed Americans FOR NO REASON all the other "world ending scenarios", you're being very silly and very bad students of history.
Ha! Always laugh when someone declares he/she's the TRUE AMERICAN... a bit ludicrous don't you think? Everyone born here is an American and no one is "truer" than any other.
Obama is a liar! Now scream that ten times and relax. Any more a "liar" than any other politician? Romney? Bush? Cheney? Rove? All lied.
It's not lying to make statements that other's disagree with. These "supposed" lies are just positions you don't agree with or worse have listened to the likes of millionaire radio personalities who will say anything to get your ear, thus your ad dollars.
And there's the Losing Hope folks. Blinded by the nonsense rhetoric of the doomsayers who have been spewing the same nonsense for decades. And yet, the country bumbles along, the best, wealthiest and the place where everyone else in the world want's to live. Crazy eh?
Good thing no Christians have entered the fray here... this helping the poor and disenfranchised by sharing their good fortune and wealth is apparently "Marxist"!
All these silly and nasty comments about the President of the United States are anti-American to say the least. A majority, as in democracy, voted this man into office. Have some respect.
Those of you just hiding your racist attitudes with silly prattle, I seriously ask, "Where were you when Republican President George W. Bush sank us into meaningless wars and trillions in debt?
G.W. is painting pictures of himself in his shower.

"It makes me sick that he lied so easily. What does that say about him? It is frightening."
Kinda like the whole "weapons of mass destruction" thing. Huh?
Lying easily seems to be a crucial quality to being a politician today. After experiencing the former cabinet of Washington liars, you'd figure we'd be used to it by now.
BTW. I didn't vote as I cannot support selecting a lesser of two evils. You may consider that truly "non-partisan" if you wish.

To comment no. 11, if that's what you want....WHY DON'T YOU MOVE AND LEAVE REAL AMERICANS ALONE! Move to Venezuela, or Cuba, or better yet, Iran where they sentence 9 year old girls to death by hanging or cutting thier heads off with a handheld knife.....of course AFTER the guards rape them the night before because its against thier beliefs to hang a virgin!

And then he spews that stuff at the end abut gun control.
I mean, rebuilding our infrastructure, promoting clean energy, providing a living wage, all these things are bad enough. We don't need any of that. This is after all America. And if we needed it we'd have it.
But gun control. Whoa dude.
This is America.
If I want an Abrams tank sitting in my front yard, the second amendment says I can have one. And by God no pinko commie (where was he born?) is going to tell me otherwise.
Background checks? Are you kidding me? Show me where in the second amendment it says I need a background check. That's what I thought.
And 10 round clips. Have you ever tried shooting a squirrel without a 100 round clip? That's right, neither bubba nor I can do it, so that means it's necessary. And the second amendment says I can have it. Shoot, some day they may even have 200 round clips. Yee haw.

The majority of Americans voted for Obama and his State of the Union Address simply stated what the majority of voters believe they want right now, regardless of what ramifications his plan will have for the future.
That has been the problem with the thinking in this Country for some time and until we all wake up and face the fact that we are on a sinking ship we will continue to take on water.
Do you know the words to the Chinese National Anthem?

It is beyond comprehension to me, how many individuals proclaim the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution without completely understanding it, and/or the complexities associated with State and local government level laws.
Let's educate ourselves, shall we?
Truer American... You may want to check with local officials before adorning your property with that M1A1. Due to the fact that the 120mm smoothbore, along the 7.62 and 12.7mm machine guns may be non-permissible based on our present Constitutional law.
(Oh, that pesky constitution again).
However, it would make for an interesting conversation with the local zoning officials.

Hey Comment 10 & 11
Just because you state you are educated does not mean you are smart OR even have a clue. Hope your children are ready to pay dearly for this love thy fellow lazy citizen who is taking from all of us without any contribution back to the system but adding to the welfare roles by having excessive amounts of children, too easy to sit back and collect the check. Money for nothing Checks for free! PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE SAND AND REALLY USE YOUR SO CALLED EDUCATION TO SEE THE REALITY THIS COUNTRY IS HEADING FOR BY YOUR proudly elected president.

I was born in USSR and lived most of my life in a Socialist society that achieved everything Obama wants: free education for everyone, free health care for everyone, free pensions for everyone, free accommodation for everyone, etc. Remembering this life recently with other Russians we called it living in a paradise. The only thing that was absent in that paradise was freedom (absence of freedom is essential and necessary for this kind of society). And recently Russians made their informed choice: they chose freedom over all securities provided by the government. Moreover, all immigrants from former Socialist countries never vote Democrats because they know. Listening to Obama was like listening to a speech of a General Secretary of Communist party in 60th. He wants more and more Socialism. People who support him just do not understand how high the price is going to be. It would be very sad if Americans chose this way.

Just wait until all those people who voted for Obama expecting to get free medical care find out that it is going to cost them upwards of $1500 per year in order to get this "free" health care. Also wait until all the retired people on Medicare and Tri Care (military benefit) find out that yes, you can still have Medicare and Tri Care but unfortunately you won't be able to find a doctor who accepts those plans. Just found that out from my own physician of 10 years. He will no longer be accepting any insurance other than Obamacare and if we want to stay with him it will cost us an additional $1800 per year to do so. Obama has royally screwed this once great country and the fools just lay there and let him do it.

@Comment#24: I feel that a 2 party system is the best system. I consider myself a moderate conservative and usually vote Republican. In my opinion the Democratic party has gone way to far to the left and Obama appears to be more of a Socialist than anything else. As far as gun control goes, I'm a firm believer in the second amendment, however, that being said, something has to be done about gun violence in this country. The problem is that it is easy to restrict the gun rights of honest law abiding citizens, not so easy to get the guns out of the hands of criminals. We have a long way to go, but we are heading in the wrong direction.
Comment #26 | Thursday, Feb 14, 2013 at 5:44 pm
Obama won the election by a wide majority voted for by people who agree with his policies.
The Constitution states the government is of the people, by the people and for the people. It does not say of the corporation, by Mitt Romney, for the NRA and Tea Party.
I am glad that a president who is honest and compassionate was elected. He does not believe the government should be owned by Big Business.
I believe he will go down in history as a great president, like Lincoln, FDR and JFK.

Sorry Wrenchers. I was being my usual, wise a**, sarcastic self. My wife likes to call me a pot stirring sh**head.
It makes absolutely no difference what you or I write here. The vast majority of folks who comment on here have their minds made up and don't want to be confused with the facts.
It's absurd to me that something as simple as background checks, especially against the backdrop of recent events, causes such a furor.
And I can do everything I need to in terms of current California gun laws as they are now written.
With these knuckleheads Obama needs to use Homer Simpson reverse logic and say, "whatever you do, don't pass laws requiring background checks for gun purchases." The law would pass the next day.

I see your a person of logic. A good person indeed. You should really dig your teeth in to some world history though. Not just from the American education system either but everything in general. It is my believe the Republican and Democrats are one in the same, with just a few differences. Just enough for smoke screens against the people. The Old money controls everything and there is only a select few. People like Bill gates Warren buffet only exists, cause they allow them to exist. I also believe that Obama was predetermined to be president from his birth. I believe his family was in the CIA. Now is any of this true and can I prove it, No. It's just my opinion from doing lots of research about the world in general.
As far as the guns go. I agree, with you. The only people that will suffer are the good folks. The criminals and bad people in general will keep on doing what they do. We the people are going down a path. That we surely do not want to go down.

Truer, I have a somewhat hyper sensitivity to this subject considering I moved to Fallbrook in 2004 from Newtown, Connecticut. Newtown was the quintessential small town New England community which will absolutely never be the same.
It is a given that CT has restrictive gun laws however, I personally held a "State of Connecticut Official License to Carry a Concealed Firearm" which took over a year to finalize including all background checks. It also required an NRA registration and firearms training course. I was a registered competitor with IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation), and would compete regularly.
I have shot small caliber to large caliber handguns practicing virtually all marksman disciplines including tactical, although my favorite is .22 Off Hand Olympic Target Shooting using extensively modified semi-automatic pistols otherwise known as "Hot Rod" handguns. For years, I took formal markmanship lessons from a retired US Government firearms instructor.
(As a side note: In competition, shooters were never allowed more than 5 rounds in any magazine.)
Some, might consider me a bonafied "gun nut", although I have never hunted, aimed at, or shot a firearm at any living thing. I have never shot so much as a bird or squirrel. But I sure have decimated a lot of paper targets, and had a tremendous amount of fun doing so. So, I guess you could safely say that I am an avid firearm and marksmanship enthusiast in what I would consider, it's purest form.
However... If asked "Would you give up your guns if what happened in Newtown would never happened again? My answer would be an immediate... Yes.
Any laws that these idiots in Washington decide to pass, will only affect law abiding citizens, not the individuals committing crimes or mass killings. Let us also consider that our forefathers who wrote our second amendment had never seen or conceptualized a semi-auto AR-15, a 30 round magazine, or an event like Newtown.
If they did, I'm sure our second amendment would have been written a little differently. Actually... A LOT differently.
Comment #32 | Friday, Feb 15, 2013 at 2:02 pm
I extend my sympathy to not only you, but to all of us who are harmed by events such as Newton. And all of us are changed forever. I can't imagine the feelings I would have had such an incident occurred in my home town.
I have a wide array of friends and family with varying degrees of gun use and acceptance, from military and ex-military (the category you seem to fit in) to hunters to recreational shooters to preppers to those not wanting anything whatsoever to do with guns. And as long as they're legal, it's all good. I have no problem.
But some of these good folks aren't properly securing their weapons, and in my view that is a primary reason for Newton.
There clearly is no single simple solution to preventing gun tragedies. I too would forgo guns if that were a solution. The sad thing in all of this to me is that that hasn't even been suggested. The unreasoned resistance to even the slightest effort to minimize or prevent even one these events is mind boggling.
Comment #33 | Friday, Feb 15, 2013 at 5:49 pm
In terms of securing firearms, you just hit the nail on the head. In the Newtown scenario, the Mother of that child had to have lied on her permit to carry application, as it specifically asks:
Have you or any person in your immediate family ever been formally diagnosed with any type of irregular mental condition?
You know what that answer should have been considering her sons' condition. And as you said Truer, if those firearms were properly secured, that whole event may have never occurred.
What a horrible shame.

You're right Wrencher about the shooters mother.
But my point was, how many people do you and I know who store their firearm in the nightstand or under the mattress.
I understand the thinking. When seconds count, you don't want to be fumbling for a key or turning a tumbler. But biometric safes are so affordable, there is absolutely no possible excuse for not securing your weapon.
Obviously the Newton shooters mother didn't secure her weapons, and the result was catastrophic.
