SAN DIEGO - RIVERSIDE - The frost advisory for colder wind sheltered locations expired at 9 am this morning. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures have warmed sufficiently to end the frost threat this morning. Patchy frost is possible again tonight in wind sheltered spots.

Frost expected overnight; temperatures to drop into 20's and 30's

The National Weather Service has advised that areas of frost will affect San Diego County and the Inland Empire overnight tonight, Sat., Feb. 9.

"Temperatures will dip into the upper 20's and 30's again overnight in wind-sheltered valleys. Some overpasses and bridges may become ice-covered and potentially hazardous for motorists. The frost will pose a threat for sensitive vegetation and crops in some areas."

The outlook, officials said, is little change for Sunday night and Monday morning, with frost possible again.

hail and mountain snow to the San Diego area today.

The bands of dark clouds dropped anywhere from a few tenths of an inch to about a quarter-inch of rain in the county in the morning and afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The blustery atmospheric system also generated modest snowfall amounts in some East County highland locales, including Cuyamaca, Descanso, Julian, Mount Laguna and Ranchita, the National Weather Service reported.

The precipitation was expected to continue tonight before dwindling out Saturday, forecasters said. By then, the snow level likely will have dropped as low as the 2,000-foot level, with amounts up to 10 inches left behind in some high-elevation areas.

The rest of the weekend will be dry but nippy, with overnight frost possible in some inland valley communities, weather service forecasters predicted.

Fair skies are expected to return next workweek, ushering in a warming trend, according to forecasters.
