The Warriors opened their season Nov. 28 with a 3-0 loss at Valley Center, overcame a 2-0 deficit Dec. 7 at Ramona to salvage a 2-2 draw, and fell to Mission Hills by a 3-0 score Dec. 11 in Fallbrook’s home opener. The loss to Valley Center was Trejo’s first game as Fallbrook’s varsity coach or as a girls coach; he spent the 2010-11 high school soccer season as the boys assistant coach and was the boys junior varsity head coach for 2011-12. "The game was a high-intensity game," he said. The Dec. 7 game was the second varsity coaching game both for Trejo and for Ramona’s Justin Jordan. Alexis Dinero’s goal gave Ramona the first half’s only score, and the Bulldogs extended their lead to 2-0 in the second half when Bianca Scodellaro placed a header into the net. "This game we really controlled a lot of the possession," Jordan said. "At the end we were dominating," Trejo said. Sarah Foster’s goal put Fallbrook on the scoreboard after a direct kick was played into the 18-yard box. With approximately two minutes left in the game Foster’s direct kick was placed in front of freshman Joyce Urbina, who tied the game. "The girls were extremely happy," Trejo said. Ramona’s previous game was also a tie; the Bulldogs’ season-opening draw was against CIF Division I semifinalist Torrey Pines. "A lot of the girls really stepped it up," Trejo said. "They stepped it up and gave it their all." The loss to Mission Hills gave Fallbrook an 0-2-1 record entering the Warriors’ first tournament of the season. "It was a hard-fought game. It was more of a mental game," Trejo said. "They (Mission Hills) finished with their opportunities to score," Trejo said. "We tried our best to do the same, but we weren’t able to." Trejo is pleased about the direction his team has taken. "It’s been a huge progress," he said. 0 comments Be the first to share your opinion on this article! |
