Authorities have said a baby girl sustained injuries from hot water in an incident that took place in a trailer on a residential property in Fallbrook.

Sheriff's Sgt. Victor Perry said emergency responders were called to the 200 block of Almond Street in Fallbrook at about 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 8.

"Fallbrook deputies assisted [North County Fire paramedics] on a call where a four-month-old girl was injured with hot water," said Perry. "Deputies believe the incident was accidental and Advertisement

occurred when the [baby's] mother spilled some hot water on the baby while giving her a bath."

Perry said, "The baby's mother was using hot water in a pail because she does not have running hot water in the trailer where the family lives."

The baby was taken to UCSD burn center for treatment via Mercy Air.

Perry said the Sheriff's Department Child Abuse Unit was notified and investigators responded to the hospital for follow up. Child Protective Services was also notified.

Doesn't sound accidental to me. Only have to put your own hand in the water to test the temperature first. Grossly negligent at best?

No water heater? If it's a rental, the landlord should be reported to the housing authority for substandard dwelling. Or is it a camper trailer that uses propane?

doesn't sound like the mother had much help, no running hot water and a new baby must be really stressful and it sounds like she made a stupid negligent mistake, not everybody is perfect we must help 1 another, especially with little ones, being a mother is not an easy job and definitely not 1 learned overnight, if we see somebody struggling we should help, not everybody is provided for, not everybody is safe, but everybody could help a little to prevent a horrible accident like this from happening

Agree Momma..however having a baby is not a chance thing these days. When someone chooses to bring a baby into this world, they need to be sure that shelter, food, and other necessities are met before making the choice to procreate. Im not heartless and agree that being a parent is stressful....Hope mamma and baby get all the help they need. The hospitalization wont be cheap..and Ive got a hunch that the taxpayers will be picking up the tab..Bless em all..

Probably all that happened was she went and boiled a pot of water to put in the tub with cold water already in it, to make a warm bath for the baby. But, maybe she accidentally tipped the pot, or bumped it and it splashed on the baby. Easy to do. I grew up on a farm in VERY rural Mississippi and took many a bath that way when I was very little. I would recommend not to get too carried away with the negligence thing, just yet.

Why are they living in a trailer on almond st? Too many in the house? I would not think it would be zone for that. Is that why they do not have water. How about the toilet?

it's the 4 month old's version against the mother's how many 4 month old's, do you know, who can communicate? This poor child, will be crying, for quite some time, if she survives this ordeal. Very sad

Judge not lest ye be judged. Raising a child in poverty can cloud sensibilities. It is so very easy for any of us, who have more than we need, to say that tragedy is result of poor choices, such as bringing a baby into the world.

Wow, so judgemental. Sounds like you have never struggled a day in your life, so it's easy for someone like you, to turn your nose up to someone who is. My God, nobody is freaking perfect, not even you. Accidents happen to every mother. Maybe she's not as privileged as you are, to have all the luxuries you take for granted.

I'm sure it was an accident. I think it's stupid that they called CPS. CPS is a total joke agency full of unqualified people who are on power trips. They just would love a case like this, to steal a tiny baby for their adoption racket. I am sure even if this is deemed an accident, CPS will still find a way to screw with this poor woman and make her life a living hell for the next year. Sad.

And who are you to judge this woman? Are you just up for the "Perfect Mother of the Year Award?" I doubt it. And I love how you just assume she doesn't have insurance, or that she's unable to meet her baby's needs. And only in fallbrook do we have the "Parenting and Standard of Living Snobs" who think they are better than everyone.

Did you ever imagine that crap happens to people sometimes? Divorce, disaster, job loss, poverty after job loss, husband dying, a fire, a stupid accident? It could happen to you too.

And I agree with Momma, that if we see someone struggling we should help. I know I do, all the time. Not because I have to, but because I want to. Whether it be to watch a tired Mom's kids for a couple hours, or donating my clothes to the poor in my neighborhood, or helping people locate resources when they are in crisis.

And I have a network of women that I can call when I need help too. If more women learned how to be empathetic and understanding with each other, they would be happier with themselves.

It's really easy to pass judgement on someone. Why not try something new- like offering an encouraging word at the very least?

Another case of a Slumlord POS- that gets away with not having hot water for his tenants. Too many tenants are worried if they request repairs, that their rent will go up, they will get evicted, or they will be ignored. Too many slumlords don't give a flying rat's behind about maintaining their rental property.

To@realist..perhaps you are reading something into my opinion..nothing I wrote indicates that I am mother..nor that I am rich..nor that I am judging. My OPINION said that I agreed with comment # 4. I also said being a parent is stressful..and what part about being responsible BEFORE having a child dont you agree with. I did NOT say this mother was irresponsible. I also wished them both a speedy recovery AND hoped that the child and parent are given helpful resources to help them through this time. It sounds like you are angry at someone..please dont YOU judge me either..Im only hoping that whatever caused this person to be in this situation can change for the better..You are doing many good deeds..(also self praising)keep on doing them and the world will be a better place..

Landlord/Tenant rights in California
A rental unit must be fit to live in; that is, it must be habitable. See pages 36-38 of the above link for specific requirements that a landlord must provide in California. A dwelling also may be considered uninhabitable (unlivable) if it substantially lacks any of the following:
Plumbing facilities in good working order, including hot and cold running water, connected to a sewage disposal system.
To my knowledge, a landlord is not required to pay to heat the water but (in California) must provide the means to heat the water.

Any reasonable person would think you were implying the mother was irresponsible by your quote: "When someone chooses to bring a baby into this world, they need to be sure that shelter, food, and other necessities are met before making the choice to procreate."

After re-reading my post, I can see why you might think I was angry at someone. I am not angry at all.

I forgot that being kind to others is not politically correct and "self praising." Thanks for reminding me.

I'm entitled to my opinion just as much as you. I found your post snobby and presumptuous, especially when you state that "taxpayers will be picking up the tab on this one." Based on what? It should be simple to support your argument. Unless you are just talking out your xxx.

And Preston, they have electricity in that trailer. The water heater doesn't work. I never said that a landlord should pay to heat the water. However, they are required to have plumbing in proper working order. Plumbing includes the water heater.
