Steel plates installed on Pico Promenade for safety

FALLBROOK – Four new 900-lb. steel plates have been installed along the four-block long Pico Promenade path in order to increase safety for walkers, joggers, and strollers.

The project was made possible by the Fallbrook Beautification Alliance (FBA), which provided the funds and manpower. The old coverings on the drainage points had been stolen by vandals.

Russ Heyneman volunteered his time to oversee the installation project. Fallbrook Equipment Rental assisted in the effort by donating the use of a forklift required to position the new, heavier steel plates.

maintains the Pico Promenade walking path, which connects Fallbrook Street to Elder Street. Volunteers with the FBA clean up trash and attempt to eradicate damage caused by vandals and taggers.

With the help of local Eagle Scouts, Save Our Forest and other community groups, the FBA has led projects to install boulders, benches, trash cans, and split-rail fences as well as planting native foliage in an effort to enhance the area and to create a safe path all residents may enjoy.
