"My opinion is that these rumors and threats, which are running rampant throughout schools in all of San Diego County, are being exacerbated by the 'end of the world' claim and tragic incident that took place at a Connecticut school," said Richardson. Parents have called the office of Fallbrook High School and the Sheriff's substation reporting the rumors their students have heard. "We have investigated numerous rumors about individuals and none of them has proved to be credible," said Richardson. "We have been working extremely close with the superintendents of the schools and the principals," he added. "This is the same scenario all over the county, and no one has found Advertisement Given the concern demonstrated by students and parents, Richardson said deputies have been paying visits to all 21 local schools "Just to show our presence; show that we are vigilant; that there is a police presence here." "Actually, we are going to continue that into January," he said. "It's not meant to alarm anyone; we just want to show our presence to reassure people." The rumors and threats cover a wide number of scenarios and Richardson said it is a time when individual fears come to light. "It's really too bad; what happens is it brings forth some of the internal fears kids have; things in the back of their mind like racial or gang issues," said Richardson. Thank you to the schools and local law enforcement for taking the time to ensure our childern's safety at both schools tomorrow. I'm hoping it's all a hoax.
My child heard shooting to happen by gangs against a specific group of people. Losers. Send some Marines to take care of them.
There have been multiple fights at the school this week.
I'd like to know what the kids should do if an emergency arises. I asked my granddaughter and she didn't know. She said that the disturbance was to occur during the assembly at Fallbrook high tomorrow. It would be nice if the sheriff's department could speak first during the assembly giving the kids some assurances and suggestions as to what the appropriate steps would be. If you really want to know what to do for the kids..... Try this, then perhaps there will not be so many of these kind of emergencies. 1. Take away the violent video games and don't let them play them at their friends. 2. Don't let them watch violent movies or TV shows. 3. Don't let them listen to violent trash music. Sadly most parents and Grandparents (especially), probably agree but few will require it of their children.
Sorry Preston that has to be the stupidest comment I have ever heard. Really you would like to blame the fact that these kids place violent video games and watch violet movies. Are you kidding me? What about those children or adults that go crazy and have no access to either of those? What would be the reasoning behind their volatile actions. I'm almost 100% sure that when you were a child you played Cops and Robbers or Army Men or whatever the case may have been outside with your friends. If you didn't than I guess your parents had you in a bubble. I know the majority of us have watched scary or violent movies ie Terminator, Die Hard, Beverly Hills Cop, Rambo, Lord of the Rings. Did those movies possess us to go out and kill or hurt other people. Did you wanna dress up like Arnold??? I think not. So lets stop blaming the violence on Video Game, TV, Movies or Music. Lets blame ourselves for not being open and honest with our kids and allowing them to express what they feel. I have a very open and honest relationship with my kids and they have never done anything that remotely has violence labeled on it and I'm a single mother who works a 40+ hour a week job but you know what I know where my kids are and what they are doing at all times. No my kids arn't perfect but I know that they know right from wrong and Fantasy from Reality. That's what these kids need to learn that playing a video game or watching a movie doesn't happen in real life. That's like me saying that I watch totally sappy and romantic fall in love with the right person at the end of the movie its not going to happen in real life. Lets look at the real issue here.

Preston - I didn't let my kids play/watch violent videos and games. That does not help them know what to do when they are attacked. I didn't mean to wonder what the agressors should do, or what their parents should have done years ago. You can't expect a kid to stand in the assembly and say to the bad guys, "You shouldn't have watched bad guys on TV." I can't see how this would help my kids/grandkids/etc.

Fallbrook High School needs more better secuitys and new persons security....i think younger security persons... so they can be active
I agree new security members that are on alert, active, younger, and attractive. Especially attractive part because ugly looking security gives Fallbrook a bad image of people as a town we are.
One word: homeschool.
Simple solution for Schools regarding this matter is more school faculity supervision. To eleborate get all the Principals, Counselors, Teachers, Security, etc. to make there presence noticed before school, during breaks,between classes, during lunch, and afterschool. Stop paperpushing in your offices or classrooms during these times. I can assure you that most of the negative activity happens between these time. It shouldnt be securitys job to watch over kids its every adult in the faculty. Kids wont purposly do negative things in fornt of an adult If my solution does not work then we have mest up kids who we all have failed
so let us give our kids government funded aderall and xanax and schools where california teachers blame private enterprise for failures so we can spend more money on public employees until we death spiral in debt and insanity. Says who? says public unions teachers, police, DA's, prison guards and juvenile detention officers and probation officers, fireman the rulng class. and bet you won't post this.
If you will all notice....most of these shootings are done by mentally ill young guys. Parents need to open their eyes to their children's problems. Some parents are in denial that their kids have a problem and let it go. Fix the kids when young and solve lots of the problems. Schools (teachers or counselors) should also be able to pick up on signs of kids with problems. I know that they can not diagnose problems but they can sure spot some of the kids that my need to seek help. We also have the macho men that think that their man hood is in their fists (with or without a weapon). Guns don't kill people....people kill people! If guns killed, then a spoon made me fat..lol.
hmmmm, When I was a kid we didn't' worry about another kid coming to school with a gun an shooting us. I lived about 15 miles from Newtown Connecticut and my friends and I all had guns that we used for hunting, we even brought them to school that we left in the vehicle on days we were leaving directly from school to hunt. It never occurred to us that anyone would ever commit the acts we see today. When I was younger we did play outside, as you thought, but mostly football and baseball. I remember playing a lot of hide and seek in the summer and sledding in the winter. We didn't sit inside hour after hour and train to kill as many people as possible on a video game. They didn't exist. I honestly believe that after years of this kind of video training, killing becomes easy for someone because they are mentally detached from the act. I'm a senior citizen now and looking back not much has changed except for the kind of entertainment our kids are subjected to. By the way I did raise 5 children and we never owned a video console -- They are all here for Christmas now and deeply saddened by the news.
Grandmother, The safety of your loved ones is dependent on the environment. All the training in the world will not to much to protect a 1st grader facing a man with an assault gun. Better to fix the reason the man with the assault gun brings it to school to kill.
I think it is sad our children have to go to school and try to study and do well and have to worrying about their safety! My son attends PJH and I didn't send him to school thursday and Friday because he was so worried about the fights, the rumors and the end of the world. He cried himself to sleep all week and prayed to God. It breaks my heart that he has these worries. He's a child and shouldn't have a care in the world. I know that if I would have sent him Friday, he would have been scared seeing all the police, rather than felt safe. I know they were there for safety, but really how is he supposed to feel seeing all that! I'm very glad the school is on top of it, but their minds are not mature enough to handle all thats going on in this world.
hmmmm, It really surprised me when I read that you felt that my comment #9 was the stupidest comment that you have ever heard. I recommend that you do a little reading on the issue -- A good place to start would be by Googling "link between mass killings and video games". There are several articles that discuss how these games, when played over a long period of time, make it possible for some to differentiate between Fantasy from Reality. Hope you and your children have a nice Christmas.
@ BrooktownGirl, sorry to hear your son has been so upset over the fighting at the school/threats. Please dont take my comment as a dig or judgement, you should really sit down with your son and talk about the role of the police in the community. He shouldn't be afraid of them. I have family in law enforcement, my kids went to school Friday feeling safe and secure because of the police presence. They know the officers are just people like us, they are brothers, fathers, mothers, sons, etc...they take their job seriously to protect and serve. Take your son into the sheriffs/CHP station to meet some of the officers so he's not afraid. He should know they are safe strangers to ask for help, you know what I mean. And again it's nothing towards you and your parenting, you sound like you love your child and are a good parent. Alot of kids fear the police and they shouldnt, unless they are breaking the law of course, lol.
Preston hit the nail on the head when he brought up the link between violent video games and shootings. Anyone seen a video game lately? Umm, ya. Ok, so these kids spend HOURS tearing off people's heads, shooting, maiming, etc. others in these virtual reality fantasies created by video games. After spending so much time doing this, the brain becomes desensitized to violence and maiming in real life. Doesn't seem as much of a trauma anymore after you've watched it and caused it a thousand times on a screen. My home has zero video games in it and zero television. We, as a society, have become very comfortable with sexuality, violence and the like, all brought to you by media. Protect your families and keep it out of your home.
Fill your children's hearts with a love for the Creator, a love for the outdoors and nature, a love for building, creating and making things, a love for playing board games, card games and reading books. It is VERY difficult to foster a love for these things if your child's mind has been stimulated by hyper media and video games. Everything else seems booooooooring. Fill their vacuums with positive, real interactions. All of this requires TIME and not a lot of people want to give up their time. I don't either. It's hard.
Thank You Mom of lots... I meant to say make it difficult for some to differentiate between Fantasy from Reality in my comment #26. The point is, as you point out, spending quality time with your children and involving them in creative positive activities will produce a more stable adult. Any parent that believes that these video games are OK really should to take a very close look at them, and then perhaps they would not think the idea there is a link between them and violence was so stupid. The sad truth is that some parents know so little about their children and what they are doing that they have never even taken a close look at these games.
