What’s going on at Camp Pendleton?

As a resident of Fallbrook who is frustrated and feels inundated by cars, I would like to know, what is going on at Camp Pendleton?

The almost constant stream of traffic traveling in and out of the Base has increased 100-fold since we moved here five years ago.

East Mission is constantly in use and becoming impossible to enter or exit from our street, which is near the Interstate 15 freeway. Are they building a new base? Creating a military city that no one knows about? What is going on? Anybody know?

If so, please let us know. All I hear about are military cutbacks and reductions from the "powers that be." What’s going on?

I think that it is simply because the Naval Weapons/Fallbrook gate is the quickest route for people that live in SW Riverside county. With more and more people getting either priced out of the San Diego market they are moving to cheaper towns like Temecula and such. It's economics pure and simple. There is nothing really new going on at Pendleton that would explain it. I know of at least a few military families that have purchased homes recently in Temecula because they could afford it better. That just adds to the commute.

A few years ago the military had a major readjustment of resource distribution. Something like 20% more on the Pacific side if I recall correctly.
