Translate this page Lecture to be a personal account of World War IISpeaker will share the contents of his father’s letters to his mother during World War IIThursday, December 6th, 2012 Issue 49, Volume 16.
Moore is described as an excellent musician, talented storyteller and educator. Originally from Kentucky, he now lives in San Diego and performs throughout Southern California. He worked as a museum educator for 12 years, and created a wide variety of age-appropriate, content-centered programs while teaching over 300,000 students and adults. His teaching experiences included both in-house field trip visits and extensive outreach to schools, as well as libraries, festivals and community programs. He also created and conducted many collaborations with artistic, historical and community groups, and administered a highly successful annual student art competition and exhibition. In this presentation, Moore has taken information from his father’s World War II letters to his mother and blended them with quotations from period magazines to offer the audience a glimpse into the life of a soldier and the places he visited during the war. His personal narrative takes the listener from a farm in Kentucky to: basic training on Miami Beach, wartime Washington, the sights and sounds of the Big Apple, across the Pacific to a tiny island near Okinawa to build an airstrip, and finally, a race back home to avoid missing another Christmas. It is a first-person journey set in a changing time, providing a unique social history of this important period of America’s past.
