Kaiser Permanente to layoff 530 employees in Southern California
Saturday, November 17th, 2012
Issue 46, Volume 16.
SAN DIEGO/RIVERSIDE - One of the nation's largest HMOs is laying off 530 employees in Southern California this weekend, including some in San Diego and Riverside County, a company official confirmed today.
Kaiser Permanente said the layoffs -- constituting about eight-tenths of one percent of it employees -- would be spread across its 65,700 employees and doctors working in offices and hospitals from Kern County to the Mexican border.
Under its union contracts, the laid-off employees who are in unions will get income and benefits for a year. Many may also be rehired next year, when Kaiser Permanente expects "significant membership growth."
"Health care in America is in the midst of one of the most exciting and challenging times in its history, the firm said in a statement today. "We have undertaken a series Advertisement
[ Pala Mesa Resort ] of cost-reduction initiatives to ensure we meet these changing dynamics, and they include some position eliminations.
"It is important to note that none of these position eliminations will in any way jeopardize the quality of patient care, which is always our primary focus," the corporate statement said.
Nationwide, the health care industry is undergoing structural changes to adopt to the new federal Affordable Health Care Act -- commonly called Obamacare.
Exact layoff locations were not available, a spokeswoman said, because some of the affected employees may be offered other vacant positions as it makes staffing adjustments next week.
A union official told the Inland Daily Bulletin that the laid-off employees will be able to take advantage of a retraining and education program that will keep them paid and insured for up to one year.

Welcome Obozocare. Add that to the long list of layoffs
Comment #3 | Saturday, Nov 17, 2012 at 10:36 pm
Laid off and still gets income and benefits for a year? Unions are a crock, no wonder why our economy is shot.
Comment #4 | Sunday, Nov 18, 2012 at 6:22 am
I would venture to guess that the income and benefits for a year do not come from the unions but rather the tax payer.
Comment #5 | Sunday, Nov 18, 2012 at 10:11 am
Not too happy to hear about this...already have a hard time trying to get my daughter an appointment with her specialist. Agree with you Ray, I actually watched a segment on the news that listed 10-15 major companies that were going to make major changes like lay offs, charing an extra tax on your bill to cover expenses for Obamacare and raising premiums, etc...Kaiser was one of the companies on that list. Not looking foward to the next four years.
Comment #6 | Sunday, Nov 18, 2012 at 1:02 pm
The main stream news media does not want us to know how bad off we will all be under Obamacare. This will be just one of many lay offs and cut backs of services in the medical profession due to this controversial and poorly written mess that Obama and the liberals have created.

This is the first step in the national decline of healthcare and just the tip of the iceberg. Thankyou Democrat voters!

Benefits and salary for one year, likely re-hired next year? No wonder we are in the mess we are in.......

1st, Hostess was killed by the unions – 18,500 lost jobs. (Obama supports all union, all the time, for everyone). Now Kaiser, 530 lost jobs; Denny’s in FL cutting hours to less than 29 to avoid Obama care (will CA be far behind?) And with his back door amnesty, the illegal’s will continue to flood (and financially drain) the state and county. Wait until Jan when Obama kills- er - cuts the military and defense. I predict there will be more non-working (or vastly under-employed) US Citizens in San Diego county than working ones . But you (us) get what we voted for; defeated the anti-union proposition, filled the state legislature with Democracy’s, and re-elected a near (of fully) socialist. Rest in Peace, America.

The affordable health care act is here to stay. My guess is most of those who don't support this legislation, watch Fox News, listen to an X-drug addict, and know very little about its contents. Remember, those who work for Fox News and most if not all radio talk show bozos have great health insurance and really don't care about the working class. Yes, I do include MSNBC as a very slanted news organization. Do your own research, and not just from one news agency or one source. Educate yourself as knowledge is power.
PS The American people spoke on November 6th with a very clear voice. I support our Nation and the "Constitution".

What is it about LIBERALS and Fox News? You always accuse we Republicans of watching it when in fact most of us do NOT.
p.s. And "say what"....I'd hardly call 50%-48% a "clear voice."

Obama barely squeeked into the presidency for a second term yet the liberal left is proclaiming it a major win (guess they watch too much MSNBC). People like "Say What" and "wow" will be the first to complain when they realize what they are going to lose when Obamacare takes affect. They have no idea of what is about to hit them in these next 4 years. God help us.

You know what the real issue here is that it's not about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, it's more about how out of touch the Republican Party is with America! The conservatives speak in code to their Republican minyans!! (Note: I'm an Independent) They use terminology that clearly will connect with other conservatives, and they become absolutely flattered by the words coming out of their mouth. They are completely hypnotized by their political ideologies! I was once a dumb Republican who believed in their ways. The way of believing that I was "Un-American" if I did not praise loop-holes, did not agree with 750 billion dollars in defense spending, did not agree with bi-partisanship, did not agree with my second amendment rights, did not agree in privatizing medicare and social security, did not agree to manipulation of the media or internal affairs, did not agree by being pro-life, did not agree with deportation of all immigrants!! See what is happening here is that the tables are turning, and this election was evidential information to that claim!! All of a sudden conservatives have new issues on their agenda, like Immigration reform, revenue (taxes for those who do not know what that is), closing loop-holes (Who started them?), and other issues that weren't even discussed in any of the election by conservatives!! I believe that health care reform is the least of your worries. Also, I'm still trying to figure out the gifts that Obama gave to Latinos, Asians, Arabs, Jewish Americans and African Americans, as stated by Governor Romney! I really thought he had more class than that, hmm guess not! Electing a hispanic Bush won't be the trick either!!

Just to be clear, Fox News in not actual news...it is a "News Program". They're only reporting their own view on things. Anyone who listens to that bull is crazy!
I'd like to see some actual news reporting, without any commentary from either side. JUST GIVE US THE NEWS!!!

Well Comment#15, you won't get "JUST THE NEWS" on CBS (communist broadcasting station) CNN (communist news network) NBC (nothing but crap) or any of the other so-called main stream news networks. Ever hear any of them EVER criticize Obama? Even though FOX has a right wing slant on their reporting, they do allow other points of view, they even invite both left wing and moderates to debate the issues. That is the part of FOX that I enjoy most. Then you say "anyone who listens to that bull is crazy" well that's open minded isn't it. Very mature too. I suppose you prefer MSNBC (unprintable) and the ever popular Rachel MAD COW show. Yep, no bias there. I know I will get outraged liberals, slavering at the mouth, over my cute use of what the initials NBC, CBS and CNN stand for but please understand that I am jut coming down to the kindergarten level that most liberals use when they refer to FOX as Faux. I'm not sure what on earth PPACA has been reading or, perhaps sniffing, to get his slanted view on Republicans. Most everything that he (or she) said in comment #14 is just plain wrong. I certainly don't agree 100% with everything that republicans or conservatives have said or done, and if I disagree I say so, certainly not afraid to do so. I have good friends and family both left and right of center, and we get along just fine. If we don't always agree we just move on to another topic. Do we sometimes argue? Sure, but isn't that just freedom of speech in action?

Comment #19 | Wednesday, Nov 21, 2012 at 9:58 am
@Pink no one is sniffing anything here, are you possibly? This is not a slanted view of conservatives. It's actually quite amusing that you say that! (Ha) Do you happen to know what consists within their polices? If you were a bit more educated within the realm of politics, you would not have said that anything posted was wrong! Every issue/agenda that was posted is what is considered a "conservative value" for their specific agendas, is it not? Simply, I just posted what has been a pre-constructed portion of ideologies/policies that belong to the Republican Party. In more simple terms, if you go on to a computer and type in conservative values/policies (still following) you will find the exact information that I posted, okay!! If you did it, YAY, good for you, now you know what consist in conservative/republican values and or policies!! I wasn't saying who or what anybody should agree with, but more or so what values consists within the party! You follow, being a MAN of business, I'm surrounded with conservatives, no need to argue, just know your parties agendas and policies. Also, as for your clear praise to Fox News, the bozos on Fox news have clearly stated how they feel the Republican Party is so "disconnected"!! As a matter of fact Sean Hannity had a segment dedicated entirely to how conservatives need to draw up a new plan for 2016. Now, if Sean Hannity is designating a segment to how conservatives need to win in 2016, what does that tell you about Fox News? Just to break it down, it wasn't a clear headline stating "This is how we'll win in 2016!", it was a hidden initiative. They of course will not say that, but when you bring in conservative strategists and a drawing board covering what needs to happen in 2016, how is that explained? It's nothing new, they have always gone their way. Look up the bios to each so called news correspondent, they're all conservatives. Some will say they're not but they are. O'Reily has been going around for years saying he's an Independent, that implementation was made by the producers. One day he admitted that Fox News was a conservative news network, and immediately after that the producers had a word with him. The video is on Youtube if you would like to watch! (Catching on?) The issue is not about whether they're conservatives, because a monkey can tell you that, who cares if they are!! It's how they admit to it, they won't and that's what the argument really is. Now, if it was called Fox News, your conservative news network, then unbiased Americans would possibly watch it. If it were disclosed a conservative news network people would have the choice whether to watch it or not! Instead you have a network that will only continue it's propaganda towards Americans that would not be able to distinguish the difference. Does that make sense?
For those of you who would like to know why there is an argument with Fox, please watch the movie Outfoxed, Rupert Murdoch's war on journalism. The movie will answer a lot your questions.

It is always funny to hear conservatives label Liberals as "stupid". That is so typical of YOU and your party! It really shines light on what values you have as individual(s) with no moral, no respect, poor judgement, and no common sense! What's funny is that conservatives use this method often to degrade individuals they think are "liberals"!! When someone doesn't go there way, they're liberals! This is why we have a democratic administration. They just do not get it, their rides through was easy, so they expect for it to be that way. Mommy and daddy buying and paying for everything, educating them on their political beliefs. Just thinking that they can do or say whatever they want whenever they want, just doesn't fly..The minute they lost this election, Carl Rove was shifting side to side finding a way for the call to be wrong, "no it can't be he says, your (Fox) calling it to early". It just delivered a blow right to their jugular!! Victory is sweet, but what is sweeter is where the nation will go. Republicans will keep on trying to manipulate with their policies, saying healthcare reform is not needed, forcing tax cuts (more to the budget deficit), trying to close loop holes they started. It's all funny, and as the nation speaks, the decision is made!

To PPACA: how out of touch the Republican Party is with America! Obama won 51% - so really, how out of touch?
They are completely hypnotized by their political ideologies! Who in the Republican claimed (as Harry Reid did) that if the opponent won (Rommy in Reid’s case) “we will not work with him, he will get nothing”. Both sides are ideologist.
I'm still trying to figure out the gifts that Obama gave to Latinos, Asians, Arabs, Jewish Americans and African Americans, as stated by Governor Romney 1) By Executive order did away with the Welfare to Work requirement (bigger % of blacks on welfare than Caucasians, more multi-generation black welfare than Caucasians). 2) Executive orders to basically grant amnesty. 3) Support for illegal aliens proven by his stand against anti-illegal legislation in AZ and other places. 4) Support of Islam over Christianity for the Arabs. There are more, but you should get the gist.

WOW.... I never labeled all liberals as stupid, however most "intelligent" and "well educated" people would realize that the Village News staff can tell when more than one message is being sent from the same computer, even if you try to hide it by using different names. Also I think it is just possible that you might need some anger management counseling, I mean for someone who just "won" you seem to be pretty upset about the election, certainly more upset than I am. Apparently you also watch FOX news a lot more than I do to know so much about it that you can quote specific events and conversations (actually I can't stand Carl Rove.) By the way 47 Percent (aka APACA) thank you for starting your post with the quote from me, glad you like it, I thought it was pretty good myself, I mean after all, reading your somewhat hilarious diatribe against the republican party, it does appear to me that you are indeed slavering at the mouth. Happy Thanksgiving.

I keep hearing people comment that Obama only won by a small margin. Let's not forget that Bush Jr. was not elected in the 2000, he was appointed by the Supreme Court. If my memory serves me right, he actually took Florida after all the "chads" were couinted correctly. And again in 2004. So, let's stop making a point of reflecting how close the election was. Obama won...end of story.

@ grunt have u you seen that latest Ramussen polls? that 51% is 54, closer to 55%. Romney's popularity figures dropped to about 46%! That's not say that when he was Governor of Mass. in his last year, because he did not serve two terms, his popularity was at 34% amongst the people of Massachusetts! That lays it out! It doesn't matter he lost, but put up a great campaign!
Statistically speaking which party has had more success with working on both side of the aisle? History shows that Democrats, I'm not writing, it's in college level P.S. (Political Science) books!! A great example was the Clinton Administration, the most successful president and administration in U.S. history! I know you will probably mention Reagan, he did create 16 million new jobs, and incorporated Reaganomics. One thing he was great at as well was raising Taxes! Actually he did 12 times in his two terms, which contributed to the budget defect. First president to go into the trillions. Clinton didn't only keep the economy equilibrium, he created 22 million new jobs, and brought the budget to a surplus level. Reagan did work with the democrats closely to structure his plans, but he was a former Democrat so he knew what approach to take at a bi-partisan level.
1) By Executive order did away with the Welfare to Work requirement (bigger % of blacks on welfare than Caucasians, more multi-generation black welfare than Caucasians).
I'm not sure where your getting this information but it is not valid. Welfare to Work Program is still in full force. It's actually even more potent because more power is given to run the programs at the State level. That's a more conservative approach, I believe has been better. This isn't new just to let you you before we adopted our constitution, we abided to the Articles of Confederation. Remember, strong national government, more power to states!!
2) Executive orders to basically grant amnesty.
Hmm, NO!! He did not grant Amnesty at a national level, it was immunity. That didn't apply to everyone either. This was the exact grant, I quote, "Homeland Security, announced immunity from deportation for illegal immigrants who were brought to the United States before they turned 16 and who are younger than 30 – among other criteria. They can apply for a two-year work permit that can be renewed indefinitely." Source CS Monitor. This is why immigration reform is important, don't hate Obama for it, hat Bush, he introduced it!!
3) Support for illegal aliens proven by his stand against anti-illegal legislation in AZ and other places.
Listen that's fine, take out all the bad, don't harm the good!! I agree with that, but I refer back to a beautiful piece developed in America, the constitution. The states have power, but not that much! SB 1070 is just a call for trouble, it's un-ethical, and it doesn't provide a solution. Jan Brewer and Russell Pearce, did not know what they were doing! Also that scumbag Joe Arpaio, protecting the borders is one thing, being racist is another!
4) Support of Islam over Christianity for the Arabs. There are more, but you should get the gist.
Oh grunt, we live in America because this is the land of freedom. What your saying is that we don't have the right to our own worship? Come on, are you serious? "In the U.S., freedom of religion is a constitutionally guaranteed right provided in the religion clauses of the First Amendment. Freedom of religion is also closely associated with separation of church and state, a concept advocated by Thomas Jefferson." Wiki Definition
Please do some more research, these aren't gifts, this is Government doing it's job! That's why we choose representative democracy over direct democracy!! This country doesn't represent one race!
|Oh, they've caught on! Part Two!|

@ Pink (aka Secret Carl Rove Lover). Well you clearly did by referencing to liberals as being educated at the kindergarten level, come on now. I just cannot get anything by you, because I was trying to fool them, you caught me your just too smart Pinky!! (Sarcastic remark, just in case you didn’t get it). I do not need any counseling, I would be more than happy to help you with counseling. As matter fact I have friend who is a Psychologist, I would be happy to pass along their name! Not upset at all, actually quite calm, well a little disappointed I guess because we didn’t win the house, but that will happen in the next election, its okay. I do watch Fox news at times, mainly because it’s more hilarious than shows on Comedy Central! Anyways, actually I do watch different news sources because unlike most close minded individuals, I like to analyze the media. In case you wanted to know I also read news papers, magazines, online internet articles, and books!! (Bet you though Liberals couldn’t read either, oh Pinky your funny!) I started my post with your un-educated quote because I want people reading my post to start off with a chuckle, hey why not right! When discussing a serious topic it’s fun to start off with a small humorous piece, don’t you agree? The only slavering I’m doing is for the Turkey tomorrow, again your wrong!! Happy Turkey Day!!

Clearly Comments 24 and 25 you actually GOT CAUGHT and now you are trying to back peddle your way out of it by saying you meant to do it...sure...right. That's fine with me, anyone reading your all over the map comments can see why you would need a friend who is a psychologist. You don't believe you have anger management issues? Reading your fragmented, off the wall, and not very lucid commentary I could practically see the blood vessels in your neck popping. Seriously (whoever you are) high blood pressure can lead to stroke. Be careful. Just for the record I NEVER said liberals are all educated at the kindergarten level, try reading what I said again, s..l..o..w..l..y. I said that when liberals call FOX News Faux news they are bringing their argument down to the kindergarten level. Get it? Probably not. Common sense is obviously not your thing. Are you sure you aren't really Mike W? I mean you do seem to have a problem finding a pen name and sticking to it. Sorry to have to break your heart dear but I still can't stand Carl Rove. Never could. Do you love and idolize all liberals? Probably, you guys seem to have a problem thinking for yourselves. There are actually a few so called conservatives and republicans that I don't much care for and Carl Rove is pretty close to the top of that list. Unlike you I tend to think for myself, and frankly, having just re-read your comment #25 I think you have some serious issues. By the way try not to eat too much turkey tomorrow, it's fattening you know.

I am very thankful for my husband, children and grandchildren and for all my wonderful friends, no matter their politics may be. I am also thankful to live in a country where I am free to state my opinions without fear of reprisal. God bless you all.

I understand that those who prefer handouts to job creation reelected Obama. I was dissapointed but now realize that America needs to learn how bad wealth redistribution really is. Over 80 million died in the 20th century learning this truth. When a person does not own the fruits of thier labor, they simple quit working like the rest of those demanding wealth redistrubution. In the end people starve or get sent to labor camps. The next four years will be very sad, I suggest you secure food and shelter and be willing to protect it.
