Vista street gang members suspected of drive-by shooting in Fallbrook; 17-year-old Fallbrook boy hit four times
Saturday, November 3rd, 2012
Issue 44, Volume 16.
Authorities have indicated that an incident that occurred Friday night, November 2, in downtown Fallbrook appears to have been an act of criminal gang violence committed by members of a Vista street gang in an attack against Fallbrook individuals.
Sheriff's Sgt. Patrick Yates reported that the incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. in the 1200 block of South Main Avenue.
Yates said that two male residents of Fallbrook, ages 17 and 20, were walking home from a friend's house through the area when when a silver-colored 2000 or 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo pulled up next to them.
The car was occupied by three Hispanic males of similar age of the Fallbrook individuals.
"Two of the occupants of the car exited the vehicle; the third one remained Advertisement
[ Zion Lutheran (K-8) ] in the driver's seat," said Yates. "One of the males who exited the vehicle had a gun and yelled, "Vista Home Boys" and began shooting at the 17 and 20-year-old," said Yates.
The 17-year-old was reportedly struck by bullets four times.
Yates said the shooter also fired at the 20-year-old "but each of those shots missed."
"It was later determined that a total of eight rounds were fired; all from a .40 caliber hand-gun," said Yates.
After the suspects drove away in the Chevrolet, Yates said the 17-year-old called his mother who came to his aid and drove him to Fallbrook Hospital.
"He was later transferred to Palomar Hospital in Escondido and is expected to survive," said Yates.
The Sheriff's Dept.'s gang detectives are investigating the shooting.

My prayers are for the 17 year old. Gang member or not, he's still a kid. Now the Fallbrook gangs members are going to go to Vista and shoot someone. That's just so sad. When will it end?
Comment #2 | Saturday, Nov 3, 2012 at 2:50 pm
What's even sadder is, the shooter is braging his sick head off today and being patted on the back by all of his "home boys". All of them are very sick, awful people! An ending to the craziness? Not as long as there are gangs......drugs, guns and death is all they uphold. I too wish there were an end to it!

Who got shot!?
Comment #4 | Saturday, Nov 3, 2012 at 4:59 pm
The Sheriff in town says we have No Gang Problem but what do we call this a target shooting ? We have had a Gang Problem for many years in this town it has been getting worse the last 10 years or so . It would be nice if the Sheriff can do a round up of the gang members and run them out of town. Instead of having them migrating here from other towns.

Easy to solve. You just go around, collecting "ALL" the gang members in Vista and hold them "ALL" accountable with attempted murder. Case closed.
Comment #6 | Saturday, Nov 3, 2012 at 6:28 pm
It's tragic this kid got shot, and from this report we don't have any idea if he's part of a gang. Let's hope for a speedy recovery. If he is in a gang, he's made a choice to put himself and those close to him in harm's way, and he is every bit as ignorant as the losers who shot him--and those around him that would excuse his behavior because he's just a kid. This stupidity will stop when parents of these kids start raising their children the right way and teaching them the value of life. When I was 17 I was thinking about how to make my life good as an adult, so I could lead a long productive life. These kids need to know they have a chance for a positive future, but that chance depends on them.

Isn't there a 10 p.m. curfew in Fallbrook? Pick up your kids from their friends houses. Keep all the kids off the streets at night. Glad he will live. Sadly Elsa is correct, the ripple affect will go on.

Comment #13 | Sunday, Nov 4, 2012 at 8:34 am
We have got to get a handle on these gangs.....that area, Ammunition & Mission, and near there seems to be the "bad" area.....the police have got to step it up, and implement extreme strict laws and patrol areas intermittently.....I do not want to be afraid of beautiful downtown Fallbrook.....imagine if a family was near by and a little child got shot? or anyone else? This happened at night, but things like this, once it starts, starts a gang war of epic proportions.....Fallbrook police --Step It Up!

Upbringing.......I was born in Fallbrook and NEVER saw this kind of gang stuff. My elderly parents still live there....I feel that they're in danger being there in this drug/gang infested area that used to be called The Friendly Village.......
Comment #15 | Sunday, Nov 4, 2012 at 9:28 am
Elsa, you ask when will it end.
It will end when the American People get smart and vote to be tough on crime.
Fallbrook is one of the most beautiful places in this country to live but if we do not take a stand against this kind of crime, law-abiding people will not want to live here.
We do not have to live among Gang Members, Child Molesters and the like,.....
We Choose to.

What low life scum gang member are to begin with! Catch the jerks, make them work the morgues day after day & show them all the insides of a dead person & maybe this will scare the heck out of them. Gang members are losers! And the sheriff need to get off their high horses and realize Fallbrook is infested with gangs & the sheriff needs to step up to the plate & DO something about these so called "gang members" which in my opinion is a waste of life!!! I hope the wounded kid makes a quick recovery!!!

You are absolutely right, and it does seem to be getting worse. . We have had problems here for the past few decades. The problem in Fallbrook we had, besides the gang empowerment and growing numbers, was the lack of response (I hate to say) by the Sherrif department.
Remember, Fallbrook was a sleepy town, where alot of people came to "relax, live the easy life", and many believed the sherrifs were that way to.
Also, "many, many businesses here" have the power to have "their" working forces (wink, wink) problems ignored because of the power and influence they have controlling a small town like Fallbrook.
I do believe that the times are changing and that the present day sherrif's are trying to play catchup from the disregard of decades of ignoring the problem. But your comment was dead on Funinsd

The Boy that got shot was not a gang member , the boy got shot and your worrying about curfew? haha , wow i don't know about you , but now in days kids don't follow "curfew" i dont think they ever have and i don't think they ever will , regardless he got blasted , and i hope he is ok , prayers go out to him and his family , best belive all his homies are gunna be there for him , i mean why wouldn't they? he didn't deserve to get shot , he has nothing to do with the little war going on with these 2 hoods! this beef has been going on for years, and it won't stop till the casket drops!

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of this young man no matter if he is a gang member or not. If you are a gang member reflect on this situation...you are young enough to get out fom that kind of life. Go to school, get good grades, it's never too late to make a positive change in your life. If you stay this route it's only time before you get shot again, and next time might be different. It's a tough road to break from that life but it is possible. Best wishes to you.

Its sad what happen and I hope they are able to get who ever did this............ "Gang" members don't stop to think of the harm they do to innocent people. Robert just to let you know this kids didn't deserve what does people did to him at all his a very smart kid that loves his family and respects them..... he was just that the wrong place at the wrong time and no his not a Gang member so dont speculate please just because sometimes when we say things that we are not sure we can hurt family and friends.

Posts like that from 'Funinsd' drive me ape s***. The claim that there is (was) 'no gang problem' in Fallbrook originated at a community meeting several years ago; and if 'Fun' had reading comprehension skills he/she would have understood it was said in a comparatively speaking form; by someone, no less, that had not been in Fallbrook but for a very short time. Why do people, such as 'Fun' keep trying to distort the truth (reminds me of certain politicians and a specific political party - figure that one out)? Where has 'Fun' been these past few years, and especially the past two, where well publicized "GANG SWEEPS" and "GANG CRIMES" have occurred in this town; which have been well noted in this same publication?! Damn, ignorance IS bliss!
And by the way, there is only one Sheriff and his office and home are in the City of San Diego.
Ray - nice! LMAO!

So this is how I see it. We are all up in arms about this gang situation, no gang situation, how it is being handled. First of all, if we as a community is so up in arms about this, why are we as a community not getting involved other than making comments on this forum? Do we continue to sit behind these computers and just write what we feel, or do we actually get out from in front of the computer and get involved in a way that will help this situation? I personally, have done and am doing something about it. I am trying to incorporate a group that could come in to help us get rid of the scum that seems to think it is ok to clog up our town with this crap. Our town will never flourish again until we take a stand, stand up, get involved, and start doing something about it. So please, instead of griping about this, get on your feet and get a community back on track. Stop being a complainer, and be a participator. I wish you all safety, and more importantly a yearning for helping this community become once again what it was, more inviting!!

Can't belive there isn't a law yet, Stoping GANGS !!! They are everywhere. There are no safe places left. They have no respect for anyone, the more crimes they commit the more smug and cocky they become. Is there a curfew for under age or not? Is it being enforced? If you are under age ,you should be home by 10:00 pm. Parents should be held responsile.$1,000.00 fine first time, $2,000.00 second offense, ect. Gang members love to bragg, about how lax our police are,and to disrespect them.

My son got "jumped" in the mid-afternoon by some hood wanna be gang memebers, so its anytime of the day or night people.
I have called 911 before when I have seen a fight and it took the police 27 minutes to arrive, and of course the fight was long over and the police just walked around. So I don't have faith in the
local police department, just to late and lazy I guess.
I think we should have the Gangs of LA come here and take care of the little boys playing gang bangers problem. Or get one of them alone, they are scared when they are by themselves, they are tough little boys in groups.
Comment #34 | Monday, Nov 5, 2012 at 5:36 pm
It seems to me after seeing these stories over the years that Fallbrook doesn't necessarily have the gang problem. More often than not these crimes are perpetrated by gang members from Oceanside or Vista coming into Fallbrook to prove themselves. What are Vista/Oceanside doing to combat it's gang problem? Haven't the last few stabings/shootings been related to these guys coming up here and starting fights? There was a time when us locals new how to take care of these things without the sherrif. I'm not sure what town you've have been living in, but the one that I grew up in has always had these elements. Maybe I'm the only one here, but I'd rather through some backing behind our local boys and keep these Vista Home Boys checked when they come up here.

old and getting older, Apparently, many people just don't get it. We have the system We the People voted for. It must be very discouraging for law enforcement. They arrest criminals and a few days later they are back on the street. I imagine eventually they begin to look the other way.
We do not have to live among Gang Members, Drug Dealers, Sex Offenders; and other various Felons, We simply choose to.

I have a friend who is in law enforcement in north county. This person said that many of the gang members in the O'side area are moving to Fallbrook so they can go on with their gang business without law enforcement giving them a hard time like they do in other cities. We may be kidding ourselves if we think we can hold down the Village life much longer. We may need to incorporate and get things done for our town ourselves. I have nothing against the good folks that work here already - extra people that focus just on the needs of this community would be nice and will probably be necessary in short order. That may not be the answer but it might be part of an answer. This friend has moved their family out of Fallbrook, just fyi.

I saw it coming when driving a school bus for Vist Unified about 17 years ago. The Mexican punks got free bus rides (everyone else had to pay) and there was no way to decipline them. They gave false names and claimed, "No speaka de English!). Sending notes to their parents got, "No speaka de English!." It seems they were above the law. I quit in frustration and developed a very bad taste in my mouth for unappreciative illegals. Congratulations you greedy, law breaking business owners for encouraging lawlessness by allowing our boarders to be overun and this mess to continue to fester. You brought it on yourselves. And now we have another 4 years of the same. Unbelievably stupido! Good luck and God help you.
