Pala Band of Mission Indians donates $140,000 to Bonsall Union School District

PALA (Wire Service) – The Pala Band of Mission Indians announced today a $140,000 donation to the Bonsall Union School District for the 2012-2013 school year. The donation was presented last night by Chairman Robert Smith at the Bonsall USD School Board meeting.

The donation will be used to assist with transportation costs and support programs at Vivian Banks Charter School in Pala.

"We are pleased to help the Bonsall School District provide the best education possible for our local students," said Robert Smith, Chairman Advertisement

[ Metalography ] of the Pala Band of Mission Indians. "Budgets cuts continue to be a reality for many organizations, but education needs to be a priority. This contribution will help ensure access to a high quality education for our region’s future leaders."

The Pala Tribe has donated over $500,000 over the past four years to the Bonsall Union School District.

According to this year’s Academic Performance Index, Vivian Banks Charter School has experienced significant growth in academic performance – up 63 points from last year’s report.

It's nice that they do something good since they're clearly difficult when dealing with neighbors in their own backyard.

I think that is quite honorable of them. They could keep all that money to themselves, but they choose to bless the community.

Big whoop! Indian reservations are exempt from County property taxes. They should pay up! We paid over $5,000 dollars in property taxes alone last year, the bulk of which goes to fund local schools. When the day arrives that I and my neighbors property taxes become optional then maybe I too will make generous "gifts".

Indian Reservations are sovereign nations why would they pay taxes to another government? This gift is the appropriate way in which they take care of their children. Fortunately everyone else benefits as well.

So happy some of you are not my neighbors! Native Americans share. IT IS A CULTURAL VALUE and a great role model to those who insist upon looking a gift horse in the mouth.

My cultural values lead me to share as well. Nevertheless I'm still obligated to pay taxes as should native american citizens of this country.

@property tax payer - Registered Pala Tribe Members pay LOTS of taxes! I am sure MORE than you by FAR! Many tribal members do not really "own" their homes. The tribe owns the homes & land. Those living on the reservation pay federal taxes but not state taxes on their "per capita" (casino & other tribal income). I believe tribal members who earn incomes through employment, pay state & fed taxes as well. Many tribal members do NOT live on the reservation. Those who do not live on tribal lands MUST pay state taxes...property taxes included. Vivian Banks Charter School has more non-tribal member students. Do some research...
