Charlotte B. McCutchen, M.D.Thursday, October 11th, 2012 Issue 41, Volume 16.
On the faculties of the University of Washington, University of California, San Diego, Georgetown University, and the staff at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), she impacted the lives of many medical students, residents and Fellows who brightened her life. Her interest in Neurology and Neuroscience of Sleep Disorders led to a 10 year career as a program director at the National Institutes of Health where she developed programs in Epilepsy and Sleep Neuroscience. Through the Small Business Innovative Research program at NIH, she helped focus biomedical technology on problems of epilepsy and sleep disorder diagnosis and treatment. She retired from academia and government service to Fallbrook where she enjoyed many old and new friends, and continued mentoring students and doing consulting work. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, James M. and Emily D. McCutchen of Arlington, Va. and sister Emily McCutchen Murphy, of Atlanta, Ga. She is survived by her sister, Lilla McCutchen Richards of McLean, Va. In lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated if any remembrances or other considerations could be donated to the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary, P. O. Box 159, Fallbrook, CA 92088. Services will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 434 N.
