Not only the scarecrow, but the base secured with 18 inch rebar was gone also leaving only the sign on the easel. It had to be difficult to remove. The scarecrow was last seen wearing white pants and a silver tunic. Also destroyed was the St. Peter’s School entry at the corner of Stage Coach Lane and Advertisement Fallbrook Scarecrow Days, initiated by a group of residents to help Fallbrook businesses is meant to attract visitors to Fallbrook to see 100 plus Scarecrows positioned at locations in the greater Fallbrook area. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. To the members of AVID, I want you to know that even though she was only there for a little while, my son loved your scarecrow. And to the St Stephens school, you did such a beautiful job. I loved your display. I hope it was just a stupid prank and that all is returned to you, but if not, please know, your hard work was noticed and appreciated.
I have seen these around town and thought they were a great idea. Then it dawned on me.....this is Fallbrook....I knew then it would be a matter of time before the scarecrows would be trashed or missing. Great try AVID....you did a wonderful job!
While the " tone" of the article is rather light , " take your ward in at night to prevent the goblins from getting them ".......... the message is clear ~ leave them out and have them destroyed or stolen. It has been fun to walk on Main Street and see just how creative people the business owners / schools/ youth organizations/ etc..... have been. I saw the information in the AAA Magazine and was so excited to see our little town get some " love" ... It is a sad commentary on the people that reside in town that now the only thing people will talk about are how the " crows " were stolen, kidnapped or damaged.....
My grandchildren and I have enjoyed 'finding' all of the creative scarecrows in town. Sorry to hear there are the party poopers out there that wish to destroy the fun. Shame on the "kidnappers" out there... Great job to all the participants!
I feel since each one is a one of a kind, hand made Scare crow. They each have the cash value of "priceless". Catch the people who took them & make them do the time.
Please go see the Headless Horseman at the old Reche School house before we take him down over concern of vandalism. He looks amazing in that setting. Drive by today! more info: Fall-Brook-Reche Homeschool Co-op students recreate literature based Headless Horseman Scarecrow for Fallbrook Scarecrow Days. Team 'Headless Horseman', Niah, Mila, and Faith, 5th graders of the Fall-Brook-Reche Homeschool Co-op, created the Headless Horseman as depicted in Washington Irving's 1820, Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The legend tells of a Hessian Soldier who lost his head in canon fire and roams the Hollow at night in search of his head. This scarecrow wears a crafted Hessian uniform made from odds and ends at local thrift stores. He rides upon his dark horse at the Reche Schoolhouse grounds which closely resembles the setting of Sleepy Hollow. The scarecrow project was an excellent opportunity for students to enjoy classic American literature, learn about history, and utilize their creativity to create an artful display for the community.
To put this as succinctly as possible. This absolutely sucks! To all those who perpetrate these [criminal] acts.... Move to L.A.
p.s. I forgot to add: The Headless Horseman Scarecrow at the old Reche Schoolhouse will be on display during the weekend days through October. |
