FALLBROOK – When Mary Sullivan said she wanted to move to Fallbrook and live in a log cabin, her husband Rick, said, "I’ll build one for you." So in 2003, he did. And it looks like Abraham Lincoln could have lived there, except it has a modern kitchen.

Karen Eddy calls her 4,400 square-foot home, "Tuscan-style meets garage sale budget." Eddy and her husband, Lance, purchased all the furniture, beds, pictures, and decorations at garage and estate sales.

Franklin Briles’ sprawling mansion has seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, 14 toilets and 432 windows. And a palm tree grows in his 2,200 square-foot living room. The 14,400 square foot home sits on a 30-acre estate, has a lake with catfish, and a water fountain in the circular driveway.

[ Pala Mesa Resort ] furniture and galley kitchen hearken one back to another era, pondering a simpler lifestyle in the yesteryear of Fallbrook.

These four homes have one thing in common: they’ll be open to the public for a home tour on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The annual Velvet Cat Home Tour is a fundraiser put on by the Fallbrook Woman’s Club. The tour costs $20 and benefits the club’s many scholarship and philanthropic programs.

The tour is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at fallbrookwomansclub.org, at Major Market or by calling (760) 451-1232 or (760) 728-8234. Tickets will also be on sale the day of the tour at the club, 238 W. Mission Road.

Tickets purchased the day of the event also include a self-guided tour of the lush public gardens recently opened at the Grand Tradition Estate and Gardens.
