Voice of Democracy (VOD) is open to students in grades nine to12 who are enrolled in a local school. This year’s theme is "Is Our Constitution Still Relevant?" VOD awards begin on the local level with first place at $500, second Advertisement Patriot’s Pen is open to sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students and this year’s theme is "What I Would Tell America’s Founding Fathers." Patriot’s Pen awards are $300 for first place, $200 for second, and $100 for third. Prizes are then offered at district, state, and national levels. The deadline is Oct. 30 with entries to be submitted to VFW Post 1924 at 1175 Old Stage Road, Fallbrook, 92028. For entry forms, rules, and additional information go to www.vfw.org .
