WHITE WATER - Sheriff's deputies were searching today for a 29- year-old Riverside man who fled from a stolen car on an Interstate 10 offramp in the White Water area.

Riverside County sheriff's deputies responded at 10:23 a.m. Tuesday to a report of suspicious people near Haugen-Lehmann Drive and I-10 and saw two people run from a maroon Chrysler that was parked partially blocking the westbound offramp, according to a department statement.

One of the suspects, a 17-year-old girl, was detained, but the other, later identified as Jonathan Steven Bowles, escaped by running into the desert, according to the statement. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Fallbrook earlier in the day, it said.
