Translate this page Fallbrook rugby takes second consecutive high school championshipWednesday, February 9th, 2011 Issue 06, Volume 15.
"We finally played to our strengths," Fallbrook head coach Mike Majewski told Rugby Magazine. "We crashed the ball when we needed to and we spun it out when needed."
Majewski said he is proud of the team, particularly of the speed the players demonstrate. Although Fallbrook achieved a shut out, Majewski said it wasn't easy.
"Cathedral was tough," he told the magazine. "They’re very structured and they look like a rugby team out there 100-percent of the time. They’re very seldom out of position and good scrums, good backline, and good defensive lines. We just outmatched them today, but it was good for our boys to play against a team that was very structured. We couldn’t just overpower them with football skills; they had to pool all their rugby skills from all of their years playing together."
Majewski said the uniqueness of the Fallbrook team is that many of the players have been playing the sport together since junior high school and winning championships.
Following the championship wink, Fallbrook has been given fifth seed at the high school national playoffs in the late spring. The team will also potentially represent Southern California in state championship match against the (future) winner of the Northern California region. 0 comments Be the first to share your opinion on this article! |
