FALLBROOK – Tuesday, August 31, marked the 13th anniversary of the tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales. Again, local "royalist" Brits did not forget.

Seven members of British Friends of Fallbrook and Bonsall gathered at noon that day to place roses beside the stately ficus tree dedicated to Diana that stands in front of Diva’s on the corner Main and Alvarado.

The tree was adopted 12 years ago as part of the Fallbrook Land Conservancy’s Treescape program managed by Jackie Heyneman. This year, Heyneman herself added special meaning to the ceremony by sharing a watercolor painted for her by a US visitor to the "wake" at Buckingham Palace in September 1997 when "England’s Rose" was memorialized by Elton John as "A Candle in the Wind."
