Pala casino’s $100 million renovation adds amenities

A $100 million renovation completed amid the current economic downturn has turned out to be a smart bet for Pala Casino Spa & Resort, officials there said.

The renovation has brought sweeping upgrades throughout the casino’s many venues and hotel accommodations.

"We are really focusing on value," said Bill Bembenek, the facility’s chief executive. "Everyone has less disposable income today and is more discerning about their spending. Our goal is to provide the very best quality for the price charged."

While other casinos are struggling with stagnant revenues and some personnel cuts, Pala opted to reinvest in its amenities and staff, he said.

"The (Pala) tribe has always been focused on the long term, on long-term relationships," Bembenek said. "We want our customers to feel pampered and be treated with respect." To ensure that commitment, none of the 2,000 position have been cut during the recession.

"We have extraordinary team members and we just tried to address the budget in other ways and do what we could do without sacrificing personnel," said Bembenek. "We’ve tried to insulate our team (from the recession) and reassure them about job security. The Pala tribe wants the team members to be well taken care Advertisement

of."

The casino now boasts 10 restaurants within the property, with the newest three – Amigo’s, Sushi Sake and Coffee Amore – added during the recent renovation. Improvements to the Oak Room steakhouse and the transformation of Pala’s Buffet, now called Choices, have won customer kudos.

The new High Limit Area features a casino within a casino, boasting a private lounge and private entrances.

"We made those decisions based on guest feedback; that’s what they wanted," he said, noting that he reviews letters daily from customers. "Our whole property is focused on the guest."

Much of that focus is on keeping the casino, spa, hotel and grounds impeccably clean, Bembenek said.

"Cleanliness has always been made a priority at this property," Bembenek said. "Sometimes I’m just amazed at how clean the casino is."

He said one of the key goals of casino staff is to provide a dreamy getaway setting just minutes from Temecula, Fallbrook and Interstate 15.

"People come here to escape from all the responsibilities of life," he said. "Customers tell me when they travel out Highway 76 and see the resort in the distance, framed by the mountains, they feel a sense of arrival."

What people should feel when they travel out Highway 76 and see the resort in the distance, is a sense of pending doom; for the money that they brought with them :)

How about road improvements from your casino to I-15? Your casino made that road a death trap you should live up to your responsibilities under what the voters passed over a decade ago allowing you folks to have your casinos even though you failed to live up to your ends of the agreement with the people of San Diego County.

Still trying to locate a tribe in the registry named Harrah's.

Ok? These are the same people I will be bailing out with my money that I worked hard for and put in savings. More taxes for me to bail out people that spent all their savings in your casinos and now are getting their home foreclosed. It is shallow to think arriving at a Casino gives you a sense of arrival.

Re: Ray (the real one). HAVE YOU DRIVEN OUT THERE? They are in fact working on improving and adding lanes to the 76 between the casino and the 15. Check your facts before you flap your lips please.

Artist: How many years? Should have been done when "two ton tonto" opened his casino. Do you actually see the bigger picture when reading a story or did high school teach you just to see the words? Responsibilities.... Bond Measure... Decade Ago... Were you actually of voting age when the bond measure was before the people? I think you should wait for the next show, quit coming in the middle of the movie.

Old saying... Engage brain before putting fingers in motion.

I like the Pala Casino among the casinos around in this area. The cleanliness and the friendly of their workers keep us always coming back here. Beside it seems there are always lot of people coming there even though it is still recession right now. Keep up the good work.

Matt: I don't gamble, never been inside any of these casinos except Pechanga so I would not know but I don't gamble with one exception. I always bet against the Padres and Chargers, easy money like insider trading, 100% payback.

Pala has the best day spa around! The grounds are always clean and their food isn't that bad either, though I've only eaten at two: the pool and the Oak Room. I've never left unhappy.... Matt, not sure what you're talking about... My husband is up over the casino, maybe you're not that good of a gambler? It's all about the progressive betting.

At least Pala's employees are nice. Apparently the human resources department at Pechanga only hires simpletons.

"People come here to escape all the responsiblities of life".....'customers feel a sense of arrival when they see the resort' = gambling addiction.

@ Matt. First, you should learn how to spell correctly. Secondly, it's called a BUSINESS! Casinos are designed to take your money. Your continuing patronage is what makes your life worse, not Pala Casino. Don't you know how to say "NO"? You "white men" sure like to blame people for your own shortcomings. Good Luck! Keep feeding those machines, and maybe pick up a book sometime. You could possibly learn something.

This casino needs a golf course on the property. Pechanga has a so-so course but Pala has a better location that could suite a flatter course that would draw better players from all areas.

If you build it, they will come!!!
