Story Last Updated : Jun 21st.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office said this morning that the man that committed suicide with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the upper chest was a Fallbrook resident.

John Sinderhold, 57, was underneath a bridge located on Stewart Canyon Drive near Old Highway 395 when he called 911 Friday, June 18 at about noon. Sinderhold told the emergency line operator that he was going to shoot himself.

"The operator tried to talk with him and be as helpful as possible, but the man insisted he was getting off the phone and would not answer the many call back attempts the dispatcher made to his phone," said Jesse Udovich, of the California Highway Patrol.

Local law enforcement agencies were dispatched to the scene where they found Sinderhold deceased. The Medical Examiner's Office was immediately notified, and shortly afterward they took charge of the scene and investigation.

Sinderhold had left his vehicle nearby with a note taped to the windshield, a witness said.

committed suicide shortly after noon today under the bridge located on Stewart Canyon Drive near Old Highway 395.

California Highway Patrol officer Jesse Udovich said the man called 911 at 12:08 p.m. and told the emergency line operator that he was going to commit suicide.

"The operator tried to talk with him and be as helpful as possible, but the man insisted he was getting off the phone and would not answer the many call back attempts the dispatcher made to his phone," said Udovich.

Meanwhile, law enforcement and emergency responders were dispatched to the area.

"The situation first had to be assessed for the safety of the emergency responders, but when a combination of highway patrol and Sheriff's deputies approached the scene, the man had already completed the suicide," explained Udovich.

The man killed himself with a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the upper chest.

The man's car was parked nearby the area the suicide took place.

It was observed that a suicide note had been taped to the windshield.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

Could it be the economy, oil spill, tornadoes, floods (insert any tragic disaster)?

It's all just so depressing. It's not like before, where we could chit chat about the goings on around the world with our co-workers....many of us no longer have co-workers.

I had been looking for work in my field for 1.5 years. I grew so despondent. My husband being a Marine and gone a lot (even now) and bills, kids etc. What helped a LOT was hiking. Didn't cost a thing (except the gas) and I found that walking took my mind off the negative things. That's what helped me anyway.

I have just gained employment FINALLY and am very happy...but be sure I will appreciate every little cent that I get.

My condolences to the family.

marine wife: I too, have felt despondent several times this year over the lack of finances and how that is destroying my family. The big difference? I would not commit suicide, it is just not in my makeup to do so. But I do understand the despair and hopelessness that could lead to that. I am sorry you have experienced so much lately. Very good to hear you have a job. My prayers go out to the family. What a terrible burden for them to deal with.

Resident: Thank You. After I submitted my comment I was worried I would be called out that this man's tragedy was not a platform for me to air out my past year. Thank You for reading it in it's meaning that I understand despair and was being empathetic.

Like you, I am not a suicidal sort...I would rather remain destitute (whatever that means in America, compared to a 3rd world country) than potentially do something that my kids may do in like.

Good Luck to you Resident, and to all of you/us who are trying to make our way.

I always think it's so heartbreaking when a person cannot see a solution to life's problems other than suicide. I just think how the person must be in unbearable emotional pain. Prayers for this man and his family and friends.

That just sucks. It makes you wish you could have been there to take a shot at reasoning with him; waiting another 10 minutes, another hour, another day. Anything to get beyond the moment of despair. All problems are temporary, and eventually we're all going to leave anyway. My thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones. He made is own final decision. I hope found peace.

It must be global warming that caused this. Keep voting liberal in this state and things like this will continue. The dark ages will continue as long as the agenda party is in power.

Bless this man

Those thoughts cross my mind, everyday.

Infact, when this happened, a friend of mine called to see if it was me. My friend and I frequent this place, hiking, often.

Not this time I told "him". God Bless to him and his whole family.

My sincere condolences to the family. Depression is horrific and those who have suffered know that nothing in your life may be visibly wrong, but inside you can be falling apart at the seams with hopelessness, despair and a darkness that cannot be quenched. Many times it is something those who suffer must endure keeping in mind it is temporal. It saddens me deeply when I hear someone has taken their life. Enduring and getting help is the only way it will ever go away. I pray for this man and his family that they may have the peace that passes all understanding and that he may be in our Lord's loving arms and find rest.

Really must have had issues to use a shotgun. I sure would like to see updates on this story, there has to be a reason for what he did, maybe if we find out we can stop others. This is one messed up society we live in where your only way out is at the end of a Mossberg. What blue ribbon committe will prevent this?

My condolences to the family as well. An act like this causes so much collateral harm, most people inclined to commit suicide don't realize it. If they do - then it is yet once last swipe at those that are affected. Let us hope this was not the case.

At least, for someone who was bent on actually going through with it, he called law enforcement beforehand. That was, in a sense, respectful of him. Unfortunately, law enforcement personnel must become hardened to sights like this, unlike the average person. This act in itself prevented some unsuspecting soul to stumble across it.

No "satirical" comment from Ray yet? Is he on vacation from the site, get censored, or has he had a moment of compassion? Curious minds want to know...

I had a friend who committed suicide a few years ago, he was the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.
He told me that the medicine his doctor proscribed 6 months earlier for depression were making him feel strange, constant horrible thoughts. He said he tried to quit but the thoughts got worse when he did and he couldn't sleep. He asked his doctor to help him taper off but was told it wouldn't be a good idea just yet. Two weeks later he was dead.

He told me he saw his days of making money coming to an end and had two friends who owed him over $20,000 who were just giving excuses. From what I heard, he asked them to come over to his place in the morning to discuss discounting the debt, they found the body ...
15. Pessimistic says :(one last swipe at those that are affected.) I hear that.
Ironically they found a check in his mailbox for $20,000 from selling off his gold coins, which brings me back to blaming drugs...

I do not trust prescription drugs, I'll just stick with herbs, mellow mood, no side effects ....

4 what its worth- I know many lives that have been changed in a positive way that makes their lives livable again through prescription medication. I am not talking about addictive narcotics, but anti-depressants that replenish the brain with serotonin. There have been studies that show those who suffer from depression often have a very low amount of serotonin in their brain. It is wonderful when natural remedies work, but for those that they do not relieve the depression for, precription medication can be relief from their daily darkness and complete and utter despair. We are so fortunate to live in a society that has those available for those that need them. As far as your friend's doctor, he/she sounds very negligent and psychiatrists have to pay VERY high malpractice fees for insurance due to situations like that.
