FALLBROOK – Under the leadership of chairwoman Dannai Mungo, the Fallbrook Woman’s Club recently collected 269 pairs of women’s shoes, 188 purses, 14 pairs of children’s shoes, 2,610 toiletry items, and $670 in monetary donations as part of the "Purses and Pretty Feet" effort designed to help the needy women and children being assisted by the Women’s Resource Center in Oceanside. The center helps women and children that are (usually) victims of domestic violence seeking refuge. Most of these individuals have very few personal belongings and arrive with little more than the clothes on their backs.

It took three vehicles to deliver all the items collected by the Fallbrook club. Chairwoman Mungo was assisted by committee members Christine Volker, Jody Follis, and Rosalinda Delgado.

Domestic violence awareness is a project of the California Federated Woman’s Club and General Federated Woman’s Club. The Fallbrook Woman’s Club not only increased their awareness of domestic violence, but took steps to do something for those who are victims in North San Diego County.

of the local ‘Purses and Pretty Feet’ project was to collected lightly used shoes for women and children, and purses with little surprise articles inside for each woman, which included manicure and pedicure sets, nail files and polish, socks and pantyhose, hand and facial lotions, pens and note pads, lipstick/gloss, watches, body mist and perfume, shampoo, gift certificates, and much more.

The committee said they appreciated all the donations and assistance given to the project, including Gail Martin, Fallbrook Honorary Mayor; Manor Cleaners; Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce; Ruby Hoffman, Avon products; and Janine Colombero, Mary Kay products.

"We know it’s difficult in today’s economy to dig into our pockets to help out others, but we congratulate everyone who donated," said committee members. "We believe we truly made a positive difference in these women’s lives just by showing them that we care about them."
