Reggae Soul Roll in Fallbrook June 5 The Lion of Judah will find much love in downtown Fallbrook at an upcoming reggae event that will be held next Saturday. Prides of melody makers will stir his majesty with their roars and purrs and praise as they play from the Elder House balcony. Everyone is invited to hear a line-up of Rastafarians perform at the inaugural Reggae Soul Roll Expo sponsored by the Village and Valley News on June 5 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Attendees will enjoy lots of name brand giveaways including Sector 9, Electric, Irie Nation, and more. There will be food concessions, vendors, sample products, and a fashion show. Live performances will be held throughout the day by local and international musicians Khari Kill, Irusalem, Roots Vision, Social Green, Madison Row, 7 Seal Dub, and others. Guitar Center is a sponsor and is providing the back-lining for the bands. JJ’s Beach and Board Shop of Fallbrook is also involved in the event. With the event’s noise technology provided by Tribe of Kings Sound Systems, a DJ crew from the Royal Emperor Sound group, which has sent its performers world-wide will be spinning records in-between the band performances to make sure the day is filled with entertainment. Event organizers hope to bring area residents together for a fun, relaxing pre-summer gathering where families and their children can dismiss the burden of daily troubles while enjoying the air of soothing rhythms, rhymes and upbeat vibes. Many people are asking "Seriously, where?" And, they are open to the new experience. "We’ve had really good feedback from our street team handing out flyers at the clubs and beach," said Scha Scha, an organizer of the event and the singer for Isrusalem. "People are saying, ‘Fallbrook? Really? I can’t believe this is going to happen there. You better not be fooling me. I’m going to check it out.’" The first Soul Roll event in January was not strictly reggae, but it was very successful, and was just a taste of what can be expected at the upcoming roots festival. Other music-themed events will be held at the Elder House, where bands are drawn to performing on the balcony, said Scha Scha, who also has a lot of experience putting on shows with his five years in the music business. Reggae music of today is influenced by a mix of conscious-style, which is considered soft and gentle, and dancehall, a sound that is fast and exciting, said Scha Scha, who is from Morvant Laventille (up over di Lady young) in the Caribbean island of Trinidad. There will be no "informers" – which are those posers who grow dreads for the fun of it – at this event, he added. Scha Scha said everyone in the reggae scene has heard of the expo’s headliner Khari Kill – a Trinidadian from La Horquetta, which is said to be one of the largest government housing projects ever to be built on the island. Khari Kill grew up listening to the forefathers of the early reggae movement along with a broad mix of other musical genres that inspired his creativity and commitment to join this culture of like-minded activists for human rights and continue the humble mission of making mellow and powerful melodies. "I will be touring in California and Europe this year," said Khari Kill, who currently resides in Brooklyn, NY, in a recent e-mail. "It’s always nice when I perform in California. I don’t think I have ever been to Fallbrook, so June the fifth, Fallbrook lookout." Khari Kill will perform many of his hits including "Picture a Selassie," "Mary Granson," and "Bird Pepper." "So, to all my fans, who I have never met in Fallbrook, let’s meet," he wrote, "and, big ups to Dash Eye, Alix, Judah, all my friends in other parts of California and the world and big ups to the promoter and to [Village] News. Much love ‘till we meet – Rastafari." Admission is $10. People who buy their tickets early will enjoy easy access. Tickets can be purchased at the Village News, by visiting www.soulrollexpo.com, or at Earth & Culture in Oceanside, on the Tribe of Kings Web site at www.tribeofkings.com, or by visiting any of the band’s Web sites. The Elder House is located at 127 W. Elder St. in Fallbrook. For more information, call (760) 723-7319.

Rastafari!
Ay mon! ![]()
Ay mon!
Good grief.
What Rastafarians will be performing? You mean all the over-privileged white kids singing about their struggle and oppression with their fake Jamaican accents?
We are flying Khari Kill in to to perform. He is from Trinidad. Also, Schascha from the group Irusalem was raised in Trinidad and was also raised Rastafarian. And, its not about being Rastafarian. Most people who enjoy Reggae are there for the music.
#8 find a new name i dont need my fellow commentors on here thinking that what ever comments u make here are mine
Khari Kill has never been to Fallbrook, surprised he dosen't know this beautiful town, but then again, who does....interesting.
You people have an odd way of communicating.
STOP BY THE MARIPOSA HOME MADE ICE CREAM BOOTH AND SAMPLE...CAN'T WAIT TO HAVE A GOOD TIME IN FALLBROOK!! :)
Glad to see an event like this coming....drop by the Spice Shack and see us. We are located at 212 E Mission Rd in Fallbrook. ![]()
Stop by the Spice Shop in Fallbrook on Mission Rd for all your incense needs
Can I bring my kids (age 3 & under) and do I need to buy them tickets?
All ages are welcome. there will be some activities for the kids, however, you may have more fun if you find a babysitter for part of the day! The kids do need to have a ticket.
I think I would have more fun swimming with a brick. Raggae gives me a migraine.
I agree with post #10, so he does not have to entangle himself with an identification such as 'BROOKTOWN (the real one)'. Nice to see you were able to find that CapLock to turn off, too ;-)
You don't have to dress to be rasta, its all in the music and what you represent in your soul and how you experience all positive and negative forces around you, and keep your head up and believe in Jah!!! I'm a Jah Warrior see you around town, Ray it gives you a migraine because its too much positivity and you can"t handle that. The one thing about music is when it hits you, you don't feel no pain - B. Marley
By the way, does this mean a free-for-all to those medicinal marijuana card holders in town? Did the FBVN pay for a deputy to stand by to inspect said cards (and catch a buzz in the process)?
No it does not mean a free-for-all to medicinal marijuana card holders and yes, there will be paid security.
It be da best eva when the upcomers Madison Row be playin. I saw them in a bar in Oceanside and they kill.
We'll see about the "free-for-all" aspect. I would believe you would try and curtail this activity since you are promoting it as a 'family oriented' festivity. We shall see... Paid security? Rather you paid for a deputy or two, than a group of red shirts. I can see the potential for this thing, based upon the small location size, beer garden on a hot day, marijuana the herb of choice for most attendees and the expectant crowd to be much larger than anticipated, to have some serious issues. I can also see the potential for many of our beloved gang members showing up to this - since 'there is nothing to do in Fallbrook for our youth' as so many point out. Hopefully it will go off without a hitch. I think I may even have to slide on down there to check it out today! Maybe you could have hired Real Ray, since he is a licensed security guard. For the right price I think he would/could get over his migrain headache potential and perform quite admirally (no biases, prejudices, stereotypes, et al) and enforce policy and procedures accordingly. Oh well, maybe for one of the future parties being planned (or will we be pleasantly surprised to see him there today?). Good luck downtown Fallbrook! ;-)
Pessimistic: Maybe that is why I never got into the Police or Dire Straits, Ska is an offshoot of raggae. ![]()
Pessimistic: for once I agree with you. Ganjafest, God help us.
Well, folks, I went and checked it out today and was pleasantly surprised! At least between the hours of about 1pm to 6pm (I went back at intervals three times because I had some other business to attend to), I witnessed a well organized operation. During the time frame(s) I was there it was quite mellow, well attended by families and just a relaxing atmosphere. I was quite impressed. Only once did I get the whiff of the happy tobaccy and that was not on site, but around the corner on S. Pico Ave where one guy was getting his high on before joining the festival. Hopefully it stayed mellow with no problems the remainder of the evening. I need to quit being so darn pessimistic! ![]()
"for once I agree with you", Ray? Even after my disclaimer at post 27 - LOL? Wow, I feel honored! Not really, but... if you actually read my posts you would find that you and I are on the same page about 2/3 of the time - we just have a different method of delivery. I believe your lack of "agreeing" with me has to do with your perception that I question some, but not all, of your posts (or parts thereof). But, rest assured I lose no sleep whatsoever over the issue. And for a man who does not believe in God (you even capitalized it) why would you invoke His name? A true atheist would not even waste their time or have it in their vernacular. I respect true atheists, for standing by their principles through and through moreso than those that spout Christian doctrine who fail miserably to live the lifestyle. I do not agree with them, but at least they are honest.
I saw and heard the event when I was going through town, and it appeared that everyone was having an upbeat time. Good bands, positive vibe. Applause to the organizers and participants for putting it on.
Thank you to everyone who came and enjoyed the event or were involved in any way. It was such a great day. We had no problems. Everyone was happy and respectful and were just there for a good time. The bands were great, expecially Khari Kill with Irusalem. Thank you to all the bands, Schascha and Irusalem for organizing all the bands and helping to promote the event, the dozen security people, the Sheriff's Dept, my four kids and husband who worked tirelessly for days, Laurianna and her girls, the vendors, the Chamber, Scott and my crew at the paper, all the neigbors, the fashion show crew, project skate park, and all the people who visited Fallbrook for the first time! We'll see you again on July 24th with Pato Banton!
The location is ideal for these types of special events, especially those offering great music as such. What I noticed in particular were the smiling faces. People were dancing and having fun. Everyone, young and old, from shoppers to visitors to merchants and others, seemed to be having a really enjoyable time. This brought people together in a good way. So again, thank you Julie and everyone who made this happen here in Fallbrook.
Pessimistic: Figure of speech. I'm an Irish Lutheran, once, GEEZ not catholic? But I began to question the babble of the church, never turned back. I know judism too, ex-wife was one of those. God help me!
We have hundreds of pics and lots of video. we should be able to have the pictures of sometime today or in the morning.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to Julie, who by now you all know put together this event. Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday and enjoyed the show. It was a pleasure performing in Fallbrook as it always is. Some of you internet tough guys on here just need to start spreading the positive word about your town, you say there is nothing to do but when there is something to do how well do you support it to ensure it's and your town's success. The people there had a great time it was obvious, man I had the greatest time of my life, Julie made sure of this. So I hope for those of you who was not there, July 24th it is going down again so come out and support some more, those of you who was there bring some more people to have fun next time don't be selfish. I'm telling you.
Do you have more info posted somewhere about the event on the 24th of July? I am a big Pato fan, and anytime I can see him and the band I try to. Is the event inside, outside, dance floor, bring chairs, blankets, reggae beds???? Cost? Ages? Food allowed? I can't seem to see much about the event other than on Pato's website, saying they'll be there...please inform! thanks, H. |
