In order to save the music program at Bonsall Union Elementary School District (BUESD), the Bonsall Education Foundation, students, and school administrators have come together to entertain community members at the Bonsallpalooza 2010 event.

Bonsallpalooza, which will be held on June 5 at the Pala Casino, Spa & Resort, will feature BUESD superintendent Justin Cunningham as he performs and sings for community members.

Cunningham is no stranger to the stage, as he has been in bands and playing the guitar and bass since he was in school.

"I have always loved music, but never had a lot of instruction," said Cunningham. "I’ll be bringing an acoustic set."

Currently a member of a local band called the Beachwoods, Cunningham is prepared for any audience that comes at him.

"Depending on who comes to watch, I’m ready to sing Disney show tunes, country, blues or rock," said Cunningham. "I think it will be a lot of fun for all."

Cunningham said that he expects audience interaction.

"It will be a good time if we can get the whole room singing and clapping along," said Cunningham. "Who knows, I may even pass out Advertisement

some kazoos."

"This is an opportunity for the community to come support the music program," said Cunningham. "A lot of people don’t know how important music is. It’s huge in brain development for children."

Danielle Osborn, a seventh-grade student at Sullivan Middle School, is excited to have an opportunity to help save the music program at the district.

Danielle will be singing with her friend, Amanda Stansky, at the Bonsallpalooza.

"A lot of kids don’t get to perform music outside of school," said Danielle. "The music program is a great way to interact with other kids."

Cunningham remembers what it was like to have a great music program at school.

"I used to catch the bus to the San Diego Symphony," said Cunningham. "The symphony is worlds apart from current pop music, and I believe children should be exposed to a large variety of music."

Tickets to the Bonsallpalooza 2010 event can be purchased at www.startickets.com, the Pala box office or on Sundays at the Bonsall Certified Farmers’ Market 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Bonsall River Village Shopping Center that is run by the Bonsall Education Foundation..
