The two male suspects, ages 18 and 19, have been charged with PC 245, assault with a deadly weapon. Although no weapons were used, according to Detective James Cady, of the North County Gang Task Force, the charges apply because of "great bodily injury." The victim is a male Fallbrook resident who was treated and released at the scene shortly after the attack that occurred about 2:45 p.m. One suspect, Tyler Dean, 19, of Fallbrook, was arrested on Beech Street near the bridge just west of Main Avenue shortly after the assault. The ASTREA helicopter was dispatched and the area was searched by air for about 30 minutes for the additional suspect, who was later located and arrested the morning of March 23. That suspect has been identified as Edvin Deleon, 18, also of Fallbrook. Cady said it was a gang-related assault and that since both suspects are adults, they each will incur their first gang enhancement charge as adults. It was preliminarily believed that the assault may have been a robbery, but nothing was stolen from the victim. Two witnesses who saw the victim being attacked became ‘Good Samaritans’ when they took active roles in helping the victim and the authorities. One witness said that as he drove by the liquor store he noticed the victim on the ground, tangled up in a bicycle, being beaten by two men. He said he originally thought it was just a "scuffle," but after taking a closer look he noticed that a beating was taking place. "Two guys were kicking him and one guy was stomping him on his head," the witness said. That witness called 911, and both he and the other witness followed the suspects as they ran from the scene. The suspects were on foot while the ‘Good Samaritans’ followed in vehicles. "We kept them herded," said the other witness/Good Samaritan. Suspect Tyler Dean was arrested as a result of the Good Samaritans keeping him in their sight.

Officers searching for suspect in assault, possible robbery

Officers with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department have one suspect in custody but are seeking another in the assault of a man in the 500 block of South Main Avenue today at approximately 3 p.m. today. The individual being sought is a Hispanic male, between 5-feet 8-inches and 5-feet 10-inches tall with dark hair, brown eyes, and wearing shorts, tall white socks and tennis shoes. The two suspects assaulted a man in front of a liquor store, but authorities haven't released full details of the incident. It is unclear at this time whether the man was robbed of anything in the attack. Authorities were called by two male motorists who were driving down Main Avenue and saw the attack occur. The Good Samaritans saw the man, who was riding a bike, trying to fight off his two attackers. The motorists then followed the suspects and were able to lead police to a location where one was taken into custody. The Sheriff's Department immediately put the ASTREA helicopter into service to search for the second suspect. Officials tentatively labeled the incident as a "personal street robbery." The victim did sustain injuries in the attack, but he declined to be taken for medical treatment. The two motorists said they saw the victim being kicked in the head by the suspects.

Helicopter searching for suspects in strong-arm robbery
Authorities from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department have reported two suspects are being sought in a strong-arm robbery and assault that took place at approximately 3 p.m. in the 500 block of South Main Avenue. The ASTREA helicopter has been dispatched and is currently searching the area for the suspects. At this time, one individual has been detained by officers at the corner of Main Avenue and Fig Street. Officials said the attempted robbery occurred in front of a liquor store and have labeled it as a "personal street robbery." The victim did sustain injuries.

Liquor store in question is Fallbrook liquor? They have extensive video throughout the store and exterior areas.

This reminds me of the story a little over a year ago where a couple were walking on Main Avenue, not too far from this current location and were attacked and robbed over a backpack and MP3 player. One of the suspects was a 300 pound Mexican. To this day the SDSO has yet to locate the 300 pound cholo. I got nasty responses when I posted comments like the one's posted here but "was I wrong?".It seems that all the crime in Fallbrook has a slight tinge to it, but what do you expect, in Mexico, it's called survival. I have stated on numerous occasions that there are decent hard working and law abiding people in the Hispanic community, both legal and illegal, many of them are my friends. But if it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck it is a duck!! There are criminals in all nationalities but in the articles that I have commented on the criminals just happened to be Hispanic gang members, now we can pretend that they aren't if that will make you happy but it won't change the facts. Right now our own government is warning Americans NOT to travel to Mexico because of the drug trafficing gang wars and kidnappings that are happening down there right now. My of my BFF's who just happens to be Hispanic and who has family there is afraid to go down there so I think it is a safe bet to say travel in Mexico border towns right now is NOT a good idea.

It is much appreciated that you're keeping our community informed about these types of important issues and others. Gang activity, including violence, must not be tolerated. This only shows the need for addressing more and better solutions towards reducing and stopping gang involvement and proliferation. And thanks again to the San Diego Sheriff's Department for your solid work here, and to the Good Samaritans in this incident, who didn't turn a blind eye to what was going on--what a positive outcome that made all around.

Illegal aliens from Mexico make up the bulk of the illegal alien population in America. As for Hispanics, in Escondido for example, they make up about 38% of the cities population, according to councilwoman Olga Diaz but make up over 80% of the crime in the city, not good numbers. Seven out of ten locked up in our counties jail system are Hispanic. Geraldo Rivera admits that White people pay the majority of the taxes, receive little but the benefits of the programs go to people of color and people wonder why so many people don't like Obamacare or Shamnesty? That's why we have "thought police" so the people are kept in the dark and the media is no help, the 4th estate is just as infected, can't change the facts. One is a white guy and the other a mexican guy. They were trying to do "payback" by beating up the 18 yr old, who got stabbed a while ago. The guy that stabbed him got caught and his friends weren't too happy about it. End of story (for now).

This last bit of information got me a little perplexed so I went onto the Sheriff's "Who's in Jail" web site. I couldn't find either one of the listed guys in the clink. After doing some poking around, I did find a "Tyler Dean" and an "Edvin Deleon" that seemed to be locked up on charges that were about like the ones described in the article. Tyler Dean sounds like a straight up Whitey Ford, but I'd say the other one sounds pretty much Sweedish/Hispanic. It sounds like a new "Cold Weather Hispanic gang who allows white boys in it" is now in the mix. Who woulda' thunk it?
For Ray:The only thing holding the hispanic community back is their culture and the church which promotes these ideas. These are not stupid people, they just seem to remain that way. If they would take advantage of what this country has to offer, no telling how far they would go, surely farther than the "AN" has.
For Ray: Well considering the hispanics I do know tell me a different story. There is an old saying used "if it bleeds, it breeds". In the hispanic culture many things are called accepted behavior, one is repressing woman and another is child molestation. The reason why it's not reported within the hispanic community, if it were the numbers would really scare a lot of people, is because the male in hispanic families is consider like a "king" and woman are there to serve. The NCT did a story a few years back where they listed graduation rates in the hispanic community, dismal figures but among hispanic females, one out of three graduated and one out of ten attended college. The primary cause was "culture". This story was written by their major hispanic journalist we call "Fast Eddie". I don't know where "you" get your facts from but mine come from "bona fide" publications and hispanics I know.

The VN just failed to seperate the De and Leon. And Tyler Dean sounds like a common white boy. Do some of you actually believe that our local street gang (VFL) don't allow white boys in if that's what they want? I am sure it is a small percentage, but it does not surprise me. If they grow up here, like the banger lifestyle and take on the initation I would think they'd be in. Hispanic gang members traditionally have a beef with blacks, not whites for the most part.

Ray, the statistics being used are from ICE .. when Illegals are caught , one of the first questions they are asked .. where did you cross? reason is that they try to deport them back through place of entry... now obviously if I was from guatemala and I wanted to come back illegally again... I agree, in light of Cranky good detective work, VN needs to correct their article and the names in it. Tyler Dean is definitely a Caucasian and Edvin DeLeon is definitely Mexican. I looked them both up in the FUHS yearbooks.
just sayin - not that it is the most important thing in life, but since you ask: see posts 62 and 69. It's obvious that the VN inverted their names, as well as misspelled the last name Dean as Deon. I don't get why these errors occurred, or why they have not corrected it. Also, the sixth paragraph in the top article lists Deleon Edvin, which should be Edvin de Leon, 'de Leon' being the full last name (Hispanic origin/pronunciation). Any way you look at it - two gang bangers, one white and one brown = SCUM.

Missy: Blame the FBVN for the assumption. When you mention "gangs" the only group who maintains "gangs" in Fallbrook are hispanics. Facts are facts but my assumptions are generated partly by what I read in the FBVN. So your saying that the FBVN is "racist" or are they just reporting the facts. Defending the FBVN, they only print the information they get from the Sheriff's Dept., CHP, wire service and direct interviews of citizens of the community. So the FBVN is providing a community service no matter the results, sorry if you don't like it. I do have complaints sometimes with the FBVN, but I usually agree with how they present the news. Don't shoot the messinger, shoot the one who wrote the message.
Missy: Let me give you an example of what I mean. On March 2, 2009, I was arrested for bringing a stun gun and pepper spray into a hospital. Although the law is clear, Fallbrook Hospital does not qualify under the law, I was arrested and charged. I paid $2.100.00 in bail, went to trial and everything but one charge was dismissed. I pled to PC 148.(a) (1) disobeying a police officer or emt. I received the lightest sentence with the option of dismissal, It's now dismissed, no mark on my record. That article was not very flattering, Real Ray, in regards to defending yourself. [In his rush to get there, Carney said, he forgot that he had his stun gun and pepper spray on his belt, where he usually keeps them.] That part sounds like you knew there was something illegal about taking your bad a.. stun gun and pepper spray into the hospital. That seems contradictory to your previous post(s) that the entire incident was not illegal and you were falsely arrested. And how do you go "to trial" and then you "pled to PC 148...". I do believe it is either one or the other, not both - go to trial OR take a plea. Which was it? I'm sure you will correct me and those others that are curious...
